Location: Brunsman Hall

HOW SHALL WE UNDERSTAND JESUS IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY AND CONFLICT?
INSIGHTS FROM THE EXAMPLE OF ST FRANCIS Contemporary scholarship is confronting a crucial question concerning the mind, heart, and soul of the historical Jesus. Was Jesus non-violent? If not, how are we to think about Jesus and his relationship with those who would be his enemies? There is no doubt that Jesus opposed the Roman Empire and its harsh policies of oppression. Jesus proclaimed a kingdom of God in which all are welcomed as the very children of God. Our reflections will explore these tensions in light of recent developments in the United States. One thing is certain, as disciples of Jesus, we must work for the kingdom of God to come on Earth as it is in heaven in the here and now of life. The non-violent (active love) of St. Francis of Assisi will inform and direct our reflections.

Westminster was grateful to have the opportunity to host and join the Community-Based Organization gathering yesterday, thanks to David Jones! This quarterly gathering unites nonprofits and social service agencies through the shared goal of helping our unhoused neighbors.

David, Denise, and Betsy joined for the first time, connecting with others to further support our unhoused siblings by inviting several service agencies to our weekly Respite!

We are thankful to be a part of this caring community!

Thank you to:
Francis House, Next Move Homeless, Zócalo Health, Sac LGBT Community Center, St. John's Lutheran Church, First Step Communities, Midtown HART, Disability Rights CA, First UMC Sacramento, Sac Ticket Defense Clinic, and Gender Health Center (Harm Reduction)
