While out at the cemetery this past weekend to paint the shed, I noticed this little bulldozer, sitting across from the NW corner of the cemetery. (We refer to this area as, "the old part.") The cemetery sits above Mill Creek and even though the creek has changed course over the years, and no longer runs right next to the cemetery, the bank here is very steep. I've often thought the only thing holding that bank in place is the huge tree you see in the second picture. And look how close that grave is to the tree and bank! Thanks to the landowners next to the cemetery (and that little bulldozer) the bank is being fortified.

Many thanks to the Gerner family. It's a good tale of recycling and a "win-win" for their family and our cemetery. They are tearing out an old building, it's concrete foundation and surrounding concrete pad. I appreciate where they are placing it.

The peonies were particularly lovely this weekend. I checked out my dad's new peony and was pleased to see these pale blooms. It's a Sarah Bernhardt, a variety that was first cultivated in 1906 by Victor Limoine, he named it after a beautiful French actress of the time.

There's also some peonies that we divided in May during the work day, you might notice some are without flowers, having a bit more of a tough time in transplanting but I do think they'll all be doing better next year and we'll see many of them with more beautiful flowers. I really love the timelessness of these flowers, I've read some can live 100 years or more- some of our grandparents likely planted these and here we continue to care for them. I hope you all can come out to see these in bloom soon.
