FRIDAY FLASHBACK: Memories of Raven Rock
Today's flashback comes from Martha Steinbach (nee Schiebel), one of the members of the Reunion planning team.
"I seem to remember being in Elementary Camp in 3rd grade - which would’ve been the summer of 1983. I spent many weekends on the Mountain with my family working on various projects at the camp and hanging out with my besties - the Sodowskys (so I’m not exactly sure what year that all started).
"When I was old enough, I was a CIT (Counselor in Training) and a Dishwasher in the kitchen. I helped with both weeks of camp for adults with developmental disabilities, helping with crafts, singing, and teaching the Gospel. I enjoyed my summers as camper and counselor.
"Although I never learned to ski well, I remember cross country skiing experiences. I also never learned to ice skate well and vividly remember the white snowy banks of the pond that turned red from my skating experience gone wrong! I also remember the day my brother Bill caught the rare great black lab fish of the pond!
"Pockets the Clown, serenades of Pastor Lee Sodowsky (Director) humming and twisting his beard, stories of Berrington Bunny by Bear and Chubby Bunny competitions, historical hikes from Lee, numerous campfires and skits, building, painting, etc, watching my brother Bill ride the lawnmower, seeing Halley’s Comet with my grandfather (2nd time in his life!), special time with family and friends, and building my faith in Christ and sharing it with others are just some of my fondest memories at Raven Rock.
"I look forward to this reunion as Raven Rock is a huge part of my foundation of my life!"
