Sometimes obedience looks like stepping forward.
Sometimes obedience looks like pressing pause.

VBX has been one of the greatest joys of our ministry and our summer rhythm for 15 years. This was not a quick or easy decision. It came through a lot of prayer, a lot of conversations, and a lot of listening.

In this season, we truly believe God is calling us to slow down and focus on taking the next steps toward starting our family. We are incredibly excited about what is ahead, but we also know it comes with sacrifice.

Our heart is shared more fully in this video. If VBX has ever meant something to you, we would appreciate your prayers, your support, and your encouragement as we walk this next step of obedience.

A massive shoutout to our 2025 VBX Skit Team—Cletus, Jed, Betty, Darla Jo, Trixie, Jeb, and Bubba!

This crew showed up two hours before the kids every single day and often stayed up to four hours after VBX working hard to make sure every scene was dialed in, every line delivered, and every detail just right. The passion, dedication, and creativity they brought to the stage helped bring our story to life in the most unforgettable way.

This year marked the final chapter of our “Jeb & Jed” storyline—one that has run strong since 2019. It’s hard to say goodbye, but we’re incredibly proud of how it all came together and how it’s impacted hundreds of kids over the years.

We’re already dreaming big for what’s next—something new, fun, and just as powerful. Thank you, Skit Team, for helping make VBX what it is.

If you’ve been around VBX anytime over the past 10+ years…
then you know who Bernice is.

She’s more than just a Spirit Stick.
She’s a legend.

For 14 years, Bernice has been at the center of team chants, wild competitions, and unforgettable memories. Every time a team wins the day, one lucky kid gets to take her home, decorate her in their team color, and bring her back the next day proudly representing their squad. The last few years nearly all our VBXers struggled to even pick her up.

This year, we did something different. All our students were shocked to have VBX start with such a shocking video.

So we made a video—one that, at first glance, feels like we’ve lost her. And in some ways… we have. We stripped Bernice of the weight she’s been carrying for 14 years, piece by piece, memory by memory. It was our way of honoring the years, the stories, and the laughter wrapped around this simple but meaningful tradition.

She started out as just a mop and 14 years later she’s a legend. So if you’ve ever held Bernice, cheered for her, or just laughed at the chaos she brings…
this one’s for you.
