We hope you plan to stay after worship on Sunday to congratulate our recent graduates! There will be cookies and lemonade in the Narthex immediately following the service. From preschool to college, these kids and young adults have worked hard for their diplomas 🎓🎓

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. We can't wait to see all of our VBS friends there!

In Methodist traditions, Communion is one of two sacraments (the other is Baptism). It is also called the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion, or the Eucharist.

What Communion means at Kingswood:

🍞 A remembrance of Jesus’ last meal with his disciples before his crucifixion
💜 A celebration of God’s grace and forgiveness.
✨ A spiritual encounter with Christ that strengthens faith and unites the church community.

Christ is understood to be truly spiritually present during Communion.

✨At Kingswood, the elements we use are:

Bread
Grape juice

The use of grape juice became common through Methodist support for the temperance movement in the 1800s.

✨Who can receive Communion?

A distinctive feature of Methodism is its practice of open Communion. In many Methodist churches, including Kingswood:

You do not need to be a member of our church.
You do not need to be Methodist.
Anyone seeking God or wanting to respond to Christ is invited to participate.

You may hear invitations such as:
“Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him…”

🗯️How the service usually works

A Methodist Communion service often includes:
🙏 Prayers of confession
🕊️ Words of assurance/forgiveness
🤝 Sharing peace with one another
✨ The Great Thanksgiving
✝️ The pastor repeating Jesus’ words from the Last Supper
🍞 Receiving the bread and juice
🙏Closing prayer

At Kingswood, we receive Communion by intinction (dipping bread into the cup).

We take Communion:
🗓️ Monthly
🎄Special holy days may also include Communion - Christmas Eve is an example

John Wesley encouraged frequent Communion because he saw it as a “means of grace” — a way God works in people’s lives.

✨Methodist understanding of Communion compared with other churches

Roman Catholic Church teaches transubstantiation (bread/wine become Christ’s body and blood).

Many Baptist churches see Communion mainly as symbolic remembrance.

Methodists are often somewhere between those views: symbolic, but also spiritually real and grace-filled.

Join us for Sunday services this week as we say goodbye to Pastor Mark, as it will be his last Sunday with us.

As Pastor Mark steps away from Kingswood, we look forward to continuing God's work together, embracing new opportunities, fresh ideas, and a renewed commitment to our mission as Global Methodists: to make disciples of Jesus Christ and spread scriptural holiness across the globe.

As the Muckler family begins this new journey, we pray for peace, wisdom, and God's blessings upon Pastor Mark, Jill, and their entire family in this next chapter of ministry and life. May the Lord guide each step ahead and continue His work in all of our hearts.
