In this sermon we consider the words of the Lord Jesus Christ to the church in Smyrna, & what it can teach us about facing trials in this world as Christians. The church in Smyrna was the object of an abundance of slander & persecution from those around them. Yet despite the world's slander, Smyrna is one of only two churches that Jesus does not rebuke, but only commends. Christ's encouraging words to this suffering church teach us that while there may be crosses to bear in this world, His promise of a crown remains for those who persevere in faith, unto the reward!

As the book of Revelation continues to pull back the curtain of unseen and Heavenly things, in this sermon we see in the apostle John's vision, the glory of the Son of man, who is Jesus Christ. And we are encouraged that in this dark world that we are called to shine as lights in, the eternal light of God is with us, in the face of Jesus Christ. Jesus is revealed as no ordinary Son of man, but as the God-man, who is able to save & deliver His people from every enemy. We see in this vision the greater Priest, who wears a long robe & golden sash (Exodus 28)... The greater Prophet, with a sword proceeding from His mouth (Isaiah 49:2)... & the greater King, who holds the keys of death & Hades (Isaiah 22:22). And the good news is that He is with His church always, even until the end of the ages!

In this sermon we see in John's vision, the glory of the Son of man, who is Jesus Christ. & we are encouraged that in this dark world that we are called to shine as lights in, the eternal light of God is with us, in the face of Christ. In this sermon we consider Revelation 1:7-11. In this text God's Word gives 4 declarations - 1.) A declaration of Christ's future return in glory. 2.) A declaration of The sovereignty & eternality of God the Father. 3.) A declaration of the testimony of the apostle John. 4.) A declaration of the power of the Holy Spirit, to unite earthly & Heavenly things. These truths that God's Word declared are not just meant for the apostle John, but they still speak loud and clear to us today. As a church we sang "I have decided to follow Jesus" after the sermon, that we might with our brother & partner John, declare our testimony & allegiance to Jesus Christ & His Gospel!

It may seem to the natural man that there are many different paths that we can choose from in life, but the Bible tells us that there are really only two - a narrow way that leads to life, & a broad way that leads to destruction. Psalm 1 calls us to take the road less traveled & walk the way of the godly. Jesus Christ is the only man who lived the godly life to perfection, & He attained righteousness for us... but we are called to follow & take refuge in Him who is the Way, the Truth, & the Life!
