Joy of the Gospel *Open House*
July 2 at 7:00 pm at the Parish Office
Come and learn who you can share your gifts and talents with in small but strong ways!
Last Sunday we celebrated Pentecost Sunday, the Birthday of the Church. One of the first actions performed on our birth-day was the act of breathing in and out. As we arrive, we need to be active in taking that first breath of new life. In the same way, on Pentecost Sunday, we are asked to be active by becoming missionary disciples by letting our actions help to renew the face of the earth. This is what the disciples chose to do so many years ago. Through the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, they became missionary disciples in small but strong ways. We have that same opportunity to renew the face of the earth in small but strong ways.
Wondering how? Can you make a few phone calls to new parishioners welcoming them into our faith family? Can you send a Spiritual Birthday card to our newly baptized? How about helping to bring the Joy of the Gospel to life? Last weekend we helped to 'Paint our Diocese Red' by showing our devotion to the Holy Spirit. How about kicking it up a notch this year in small but strong ways? We can do the same with our other Feast days, Divine Mercy Sunday, Feast of the Holy Family, Feast of Immaculate Conception, just to name a few.
Renewing the face of the earth begins with us through our actions. We must have the confidence to use the gifts the Holy Spirit has bestowed on us. The gifts of the Holy Spirit were given to us as much to be used for the betterment of the Church and those around us. We need to have the same confidence as the disciples on Pentecost Sunday to use and promote our gifts and talents to help fulfill our mission in the Church; to spring the Joy of the Gospel. Please join us each Tuesday in July when we will present different topics. You may come to one or all of these classes. Please be sure to register so we have enough materials.
Week 1-DISCERNMENT OF GIFTS
Most of us feel we don't have time to volunteer. Others feel they are not 'qualified' enough and feel they should leave it to someone else, doubting their true God given abilities. Please join us on July 2nd as we get to know one another in an informal setting. This is the first step of discernment, getting to know not only one another but how we are all connected in small but strong ways. Psalm 119:66 tells us that the word discernment means to 'taste'. It's the ability to distinguish, recognize and then assess your spiritual gifts and where they best fit into God's plan. The disciples had no clue what was in store for them but they trusted in God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We are asking you to do the same. Trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and just come and gather in the upper room. Taste and See ... Taste and See ... Please let us know you are coming by calling Joanna in the Faith Formation Office at 939-1681, ext 4
