Did you know that a quaint church in Rumson, , helped launch the careers of the famous architects behind the New York Public Library? 🏛️✨
Built in 1886, the First Presbyterian Church of Rumson (originally known as the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanic) is an absolute architectural treasure. Designed in the stunning Shingle style, this gorgeous building was actually the very first major commission for renowned American architects Thomas Hastings and John Carrère!
The exterior of the church is beautifully unique, covered in thousands of cedar fish-scale shaped shingles and topped with a striking octagonal tower. Inside, the sanctuary is just as breathtaking, boasting three authenticated Tiffany stained glass windows.
Thanks to its incredible design and rich community history, the building has remained beautifully preserved and was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
