A friend sent me this picture of our Family Build-It Stable and Nativity Stand-Up Figures, all wrapped up as a gift to give to her neighbors. She was so excited to gift it to this family with four little ones! My prayer goes with it: may this be a gift that keeps on giving year after year as they pull it out and experience new and maturing truths about Jesus’ humble beginnings and those who God brought to experience the birth that changed time and eternity forever.

The Family Build-It Stable is designed to unite parents and children for a meaningful conversation centered on celebrating Jesus’ birth. You will receive a kit including beautiful pieces of cedar wood, which have all been pre-cut and pre-drilled for easy assembly. A step-by-step tutorial is included for this project, and yes, a child can actually build it! All you need is some glue and a hammer.

The Nativity Stand-Up Figures, sold separately, are an heirloom set of robust figures, perfect for children’s hands. Each figure is hand-made of maple hardwood with a non-toxic, lead-free varnish sealing agent. They range in size from 2.75” high to 5.5” high. The beautiful, detailed artistry of each person, drawn by artist Dawn Field Hargrove, makes each figure come to life, helping children imagine what this special night was like.

These are low in stock and can be purchased using the link in my bio.

In my time with the Lord this morning, in the scripture passages I was reading, God combined an experience from last weekend and the verses I read to form an exhortative thought. In Revelation 7:9-12, John, the author, sees those who are saved, along with the angels and elders, in the throne room of God. They praise and worship Him, naming His attributes and the qualities they believe about Him.

First, I asked myself how often I worship Him by naming the qualities I have experienced and know to be true from my relationship with Him. I want to do this more. Next, I thought about children today. I see the busy lifestyles of parents who want the best for their children but sometimes miss the most important thing they can give them: a solid foundation of the stories of God throughout the Bible. They are included to teach us how those people in the stories experienced God and came to know not just about Him but to know Him in specific situations enough to make their praise personal. Children need to hear Bible stories and learn who God is through those stories. In my experience as a parent and a Children’s Minister, I know it is easy to relegate this part of parenting to the church, but God asks parents to be primarily responsible. God wants parents to know what content from the Bible their child has heard and to use it to train their children to see the same God demonstrating His attributes in their daily experiences. God, experienced over and over again throughout childhood, prepares them for the teen years when faith in God must become their own.

A new year is before us. Might God want you to make this more of a priority in your life or in your child’s life? There are so many wonderful Bible storybooks that can assist you in seeing God’s characteristics in the story. Why not give your child one of these as a present, along with the promise of using it with them? I think in this way we honor an aspect of the prayer Jesus taught us to pray. May His kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven.

Jesus knew the importance of foundation when building. I join him in declaring the importance of a foundation of truth in the lives of children. The Hide ‘Em In Your Heart krates are designed to help parents lay a biblical foundation of truth in the lives of their children, upon which they will continue to build.

Every month the memory verses are based on one of the core doctrine areas I’ve defined in the product details on our website. This June, kids will memorize Bible verses based on the Doctrine of Creation. The Doctrine of Creation permeates all of life. It’s not just something to believe in your mind to have a position on the origins of Earth. It’s far more encompassing than rejecting evolution. The Doctrine of Creation is knowledge that should inform the way we live. The materials in June’s Kid’s Krate will prompt conversations about how we live in light of these foundational truths. Here are a few examples to consider:

The Doctrine of Creation calls us to be in a relationship with God.
The Doctrine of Creation calls us to live dependent upon God, not independent.
The Doctrine of Creation calls us to care for the world in which we live.
The Doctrine of Creation calls us to live a wonder-filled life in awe of all that God created.
The Doctrine of Creation causes us to see dignity and value in every human life.
The Doctrine of Creation applied means there is no place in life for racism or prejudice of any kind based on ancestry, skin color, gender, or anything else that is part of the created order.
The Doctrine of Creation rightly understood leads us to the cross of Christ.

We would love to partner with you as you lay that strong foundation in the lives of your kids. Use the link in bio for more information on our scripture memory plan - The Hide ‘Em In Your Heart Kid’s Krates.

“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them…is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”
Jesus…. Luke 6:47-48

Christmas is right around the corner. People are already busy decorating houses, planning holiday meals, and buying gifts for their loved ones. I know your heart as a parent is to create meaningful family memories and to try not to let the celebration of Christ’s birth get lost in the maze of make-believe and merchandizing.

To be intentional this month, why not celebrate Advent! We’ve designed a Family Build-It Stable to be an activity for parents and children to make together. Then each week focus on filling it with the different people who were present to celebrate the joyous birth of Jesus. Use this link for information on the Family Build-It Stable and Nativity Stand Up Figures. https://heartslikehis.com/collections/christmas

And, keep checking back here for ideas to help your family reflect on the incredible gift that God gave us in Jesus.

On my walk this morning I was energized thinking about all the different beauty that God will show me as a result of our move to the Northeast. It will be hard to top the tropical beauty of Miami, but that’s nothing for our God!

I’m grateful that in his letters to Timothy, Paul reminds him of a few things which we now have as recorded scripture and important life lessons.

First Paul recognized that Timothy had a sincere faith. Lois and Eunice are recognized in scripture for passing on their faith to Timothy. “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5

Then Paul encourages Timothy to continue developing his faith in the same way his mother and grandmother taught him: “Continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3: 14-15

From infancy Eunice and Lois prepared Timothy’s heart to accept Christ by teaching Timothy the Old Testament Scriptures and preparing him to recognize the Messiah when He appeared
When Paul came to town on one of his missionary journeys, Timothy was ready for Christ to move in his heart. He was ready to begin a forever friendship with Jesus.

The Paul goes on to say that after Timothy became a believer, the scriptures would be the primary way he would grow in Christlikeness for the rest of his life: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right. Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable, having all that is needed to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Are you laying a foundation for a “sincere faith” in the life of your child?
Are you learning to recognize Christ’s voice when He speaks to you through the scripture and showing your child how to grow to be more like Him?
Does your child have an age appropriate Bible or Bible Story Book?

I want to follow Lois’ example with ‘the great eight’ and Eunice’s example even with my adult children.
