Recently I was reading Exodus and I got to the part when Moses encounters God in the burning bush. Most of us know the story by heart.

In Exodus 3:13 Moses asks God what he should tell the Israelites when they ask what God's name is.

That exchange really stuck out and I felt the Holy Spirit pushing me to discovering something awesome. Why would the Israelites want to know what God's name was? Is there some significance to names that we have forgotten or lost over time? What's in a name?

These questions have propelled me on a multi-week study to find an answer. From the ancient flood stages of the Nile and Semitic evidence in Egypt, to the timing of and invention of the Proto-Sinaitic Script, the dating of the Exodus, all the way to the mighty city of Jericho in Canaan.

I have found some really exciting stuff and am currently debating whether to share it all with a video or post it all in a text document. I guess I could do both too!

Let me know what you think!

The Triumphant Entry
Was it hidden?

Luke 19:41-44 “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.””

This verse in particular sticks out to me because Jesus declares that the day which would bring peace is now hidden from their eyes.

Why was it hidden?

John tells us that the world did not recognize him and that his own did not receive him and further down in the declaration made by Jesus he says 'you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you'.

John 1:9 -11 “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.”

John is pulling from Isaiah's prophecy about the suffering Messiah: He was despised and rejected by mankind.

Should they have known?

I think they should have known because of a few things.

1. Jesus came into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, a c**t, a foal of a donkey which fulfilled Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a c**t, the foal of a donkey.”

The Jews would also be aware of the rest of Zechariah's prophecy - Zechariah 9:10-1 “I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.”

Zechariah, who prophesied later than both Micah and Isaiah, uses some of the same language: 'Daughter Zion' which in both Isaiah and Micah are used in prophecies concerning the last days.
Micah 4:8 “As for you, watchtower of the flock, stronghold of Daughter Zion, the former dominion will be restored to you; kingship will come to Daughter Jerusalem.””

Isaiah 62:11 “The Lord has made proclamation to the ends of the earth: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your Savior comes! See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.’ ””

2. Jesus entered through the Eastern Gate and went straight to the Temple. Ezekiel 43:1-5 “Then the man brought me to the gate facing east, and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory. The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown. The glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east. Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.”

Jesus was aware of this prophecy just as He was aware of Zechariah's prophecy and was letting those with eyes to see that He was equating himself as God.

3. Jesus came on the appointed day. Daniel 9:25 ““Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.”

The Jews received a long range Messianic Forecast from God via the prophet Daniel in where a SPECIFIC date is given for when the Messiah would come.

Daniel 9:20-27 “While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill—while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision: “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

Time to Math

What's a seven? This has been understood to be 7 year periods. According to the Angel Gabriel there will be 70 of these 7 year periods until the end. 62 of these 7 year periods will be contiguous while the final 7 sevens is not.

So, 62 x 7 = 434 and 7 x 7 = 49, when you add these together we come to 483, so 483 years until the Messiah comes.

The first thing we need to do is sort out when the word to rebuild Jerusalem went out. When Daniel wrote this the Jews were currently in exile and Jerusalem was desolate and in ruins from Nebuchadnezzar around 587 BC. Daniel gives a date at the beginning of chapter 9, 'In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes' which is probably 522 BC.

There were two decrees that went out, the first was to rebuild the temple given by Cyrus in 538/537 BC. This decree only gave permission for the Jews to rebuild the temple.

The second decree, which was the decree given to Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem by King Artaxerxes in the month of Nisan is the 20th year of his reign.

These are dates that you can run down!

The 20th year of his reign was either 445 or 444 BC which gives us our start date.

This is where it gets a little complicated, the calendar that we use is different than the calendar the Jews were using during their time in exile. In the Gregorian Calendar we have 365 days in a year, and in the Babylonian Calendar they had 360 days.

If you take 483 Babylonian years and convert them to the number of years on our Gregorian calendar you would arrive at 32 or 33 AD. So, we have narrowed it down to these two years.

Now, because Passover always starts on the night of the first full moon in Spring, we can sort the date for Passover on these years if we use historical lunar data to determine when the first full moon after the Spring Equinox is during the month of Nisan. (src. https://astropixels.com/ephemeris/phasescat/phases0001.html)
We also need to look at the events recorded in the Gospel record leading up to the Crucifixion and Resurrection, because each day has something recorded.

If we look at the year 32 AD, we can see by the full moon that Passover began on Tuesday, April 15th.

We have to understand that Jewish time keeping is different, we start our days at 12AM, but they begin their days at evening.

The issue with the 33 AD Passover is the references made in the Gospel records to the Sabbath don't match.

However, if we look to 33 AD, we see that Passover began on the evening of Friday, 15 Nisan, April 3rd and this means Jesus would've made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on 10 Nisan in 33 AD!

As you can see, this matches up perfectly to the Gospel record.
So, according to the Angel Gabriel the 10th of Nisan would be 173,880 days after the decree to rebuild Jerusalem. Now, if you really wanted to, you could go back and sort out that exact day too!

On a Mission with a Common Purpose...

People united in a common purpose are a force to be reckoned with. We have seen both good and bad examples of this throughout history. In Christianity we have seen how a small group of people, only 12 in number, set out on a mission to change the world. Something that is still going on to this very day.

Jesus understood the need for common purpose and gave us a commission prior to leaving earth.

Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In this Jesus lays out a divine order for us to follow. I believe that a lot of the issues we have in churches are because we don’t follow it.

This is the believers’ Mission and Common Purpose:
1. Go out and make disciples.
2. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
3. Teach them to obey everything He has commanded us.

The Church is for believers and is an exclusive group. We are to go out of the Church and make disciples. This is what evangelism is, going out and proclaiming the Good News. Then when the people accept that message and are saved they become a follower of Jesus (a disciple). At this point we baptize them. Once baptized we teach them. Step 3 is where the Church gets involved (training believers).

It's like making biscuits. You use milk, eggs, flour, and butter. Does it matter when you put the ingredients in? What about the baking process? Order matters and we follow these types of orders all the time in our physical lives. If we want the biscuits to turn out right we have to follow the recipe and do everything in order.

Not saying unbelievers aren't welcome, God can send, and does send, unbelievers into a Church and Churches and Churches need to be equipped to minister effectively in these moments.

The primary mission of the church is to train believers.

How many times have you heard of, or experienced, a Church that removed the bibles from the pews (or debated this) because they didn't want to offend any visitors. Or (and this has happened to me) been told that we don't speak anything except love and grace from the pulpit as to not offend anyone. Prayers can't mention sin, S***m and Gomorrah becomes a story about hospitality and not homosexuality.

These issues occur because of the enemy infiltration into the Church. The Church is a place where believers come together to be taught, encouraged, and sometimes rebuked. The Church is where believers receive battle orders to fight the on going Spiritual War.

Imagine, having an agent of the enemy right inside, listening in and sometimes making recommendations... Jesus said there were only two teams, those with Him and those against. If they are not a Christian they are against Jesus.

Look at the mess all the mainstream denominations are in right now. Splits and divisions on whether to obey the Word of God.

We have to get Church back to what it was and is supposed to be by following the blueprint left for us in the Bible and not worry about 'offending' the world. We have to stop outsourcing evangelism to the Church and fully take back that mission and be about our Father's business.

Until we follow the divine order Jesus gave all His followers we shouldn't be surprised when outcomes aren't what we expected...

Valentine’s day has an old and violent history and is the day to honor a Christian martyr named Valentine.

St. Valentine was a Roman priest and physician who was martyred during the persecution of Christians by Roman Emperor Claudius II Gothicus around 270 AD. While he was imprisoned in Rome for ministering, he restored the sight to the blind daughter of his jailer. Legend has it that he wrote a letter to the jailer’s daughter signed “Your Valentine” prior to his ex*****on.

How many times have you been amazed at all the different ways there were to create a certain dish? Whether Shepherd’s Pie or Jerk Chicken, there seems to be a multitude of ways to create. Through different ingredients to different methods of preparation it can get confusing quickly.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been in the grocery store, trying to sort out something to cook for dinner and start scrolling through recipes. Really, how can there be over 20 ways to make Chicken with Yellow Rice?!

How do we know which recipe to choose? Some choose the ease of preparation while others choose the ones with the highest ratings and the most reviews.

How can there be so many paths that supposedly lead to the same outcome? The truth is that each of these recipes would create a different dish. Sometimes the difference would be very noticeable while others would be much more subtle.

Thankfully, obtaining eternal life in Glory isn’t as confusing!

Even though the world tells us that there are many ways to reach it, there is, in fact, only ONE; and that is through Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells us that He is the Way and to find the small gate and follow the narrow path.

Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Just like picking the right recipe and using correct ingredients we must adhere to the Word of God and follow His instructions to stay on the right path.

Another year has passed and many of us are struggling under the weight of a lot of garbage that we have carried along with us. This garbage has allowed the enemy an area (stronghold) from which to attack us and can emotionally drain us to the point where we are no longer looking outwards to Jesus but focused inwards on our pain. The bible tells us to put the past behind us, forgetting it, and push forward (Philippians 3:13-14).

This is very much like taking out the trash. First, we have to identify the garbage in our lives, the trash that we need to throw away. Do you have a memory that when it comes to mind it makes you despair? Or something that happened in your past that makes you feel ashamed and unworthy? How about something that causes you anxiety? These items that pull your attention inward and away from Christ and His promises are what we need to throw away.

To throw the garbage away we need to take it to the curb for disposal. Ask the Holy Spirit for help in identifying the items we need to throw away. Jesus will help us carry the trash to the curb. God will take it away.

Once we discard these items into the trash, we shouldn’t go back to them. Just like you wouldn’t want your child to be digging around for chicken bones in a garbage bag, God doesn’t want us to be looking for and hanging on to these items.

However, sometimes we have held on to items for so long or something was so horrible, it just keeps popping up in our minds. Thankfully there is a prescription in God’s Word for that. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to take captive EVERY thought to make it obedient to Christ. This means that any thought that pops into our minds must be captured and made obedient to Christ before we entertain it.

Now that we know these things, we will be blessed if we do them!

What thoughts are obedient to Christ?

For the answer check out Philippians 4:8, whatever is TRUE, whatever is NOBLE, whatever is RIGHT, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is ADMIRABLE---if anything is EXCELLENT or PRAISEWORTHY---think about such things.

As we say goodbye to 2024, let us take some time to find and get rid of all the garbage that will hinder us in 2025.

Happy New Year, and may God richly bless you in 2025 in Jesus Name!

But what is the Gospel? The word Gospel was derived from the Anglo-Saxon word godspell which meant "glad tidings" or "good news". The first four books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) are called "The Gospels". The full Gospel message tells about the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. This "good news" is to be declared to all the world over as it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

A common misconception is that the Magi were present in the manger on the night of Jesus' birth. We see this in everything from artwork, to movies, and in Christmas plays. However, this is not scriptural as the Magi didn't visit Jesus until much later, some scholars put this at 40 days while others say up to 2 years later. In Matthew 2:11 we see the Magi visited Mary and the child (Jesus) in a house in Bethlehem. The star that the Magi follow shown in the sky at least up until they arrived at the house where Jesus and Mary stayed. So, when did the Magi arrive? While we don't know an exact date we can surmise from the bible that it was somewhere within the first 2 years of Jesus' life. King Herod discovered from the Magi the EXACT time the star had appeared and he used this date to determine what aged boys to kill (once he found out the Magi had outwitted him). Herod's decision to kill all the boys 2 years old and younger shows that Jesus was somewhere within this age group.
