Our Story
The Metropolitan Detroit Youth Chorus has been ministering through music to people in the metropolitan Detroit area and around the country for over 50 years! MDYC is made up of young people ranging in age from 14 years old through twelfth grade. As an a ca****la chorus, we provide a musical experience that encourages both ourselves and our listeners in devotion to Christ and Christian principles. Our membership has grown from its original 18 members in 1964 to over 100 members, and currently there are 40+ members. These young people represent many congregations of the Churches of Christ and other Christian churches throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. MDYC begins its year in September with auditions at the Royal Oak Church of Christ, followed by a weekend of chorus camp and weekly rehearsals every Sunday until we begin or concert season. From December through May, the chorus travels to churches around the metro area, performing concerts as a way of praising God and encouraging others. Over the years, MDYC has provided opportunities for thousands of young people to experience the lifelong bonds of Christian fellowship. MDYC alumni reside in all 50 states and around the world. The chorus is currently under the leadership of 8 members of our Board of Trustees and a choral director, all of whom are committed to providing Christian leadership as they interact with the chorus members. It is our prayer that MDYC will continue to grow and spread the word of God in song for many years to come.
