Good morning (almost afternoon) everyone!
I hope this finds you well!
I know we have not had a service at St. Mark’s in a while and I am hoping we can make that happen before the end of this year, as I have had various people reach out wanting to know when we would meet again. I think everyone has missed getting together for a service and coffee hour after.
Even though we haven’t been meeting, we are still caring for the church and grounds.
Please know maintenance for the church and grounds is paid for by donations. The light bill is usually $34 monthly, it costs $65 each time the grass is cut(this includes mowing, weedeating, and spraying round up as needed), cleaning inside the building once a month is $30, Quickbooks costs $38 per month, annual termite inspection is $125, annual propane tank fee is $12.84. The estimated annual expenses are around $1900.

Since we haven’t met in a while our only source of income is donations in the mail, so please know any and all donations would be appreciated!

In addition to the above, we need some work done on the back office addition, as the floor has separated from main building. I don’t know the cost of repairs but have reached out to try to get contractors to look at it. If you know a reputable contractor that is able to work on historic buildings please share.

Thank you and peace be with you always!

Praying for Western Carolina and all impacted by Helene.

Prayers are the most powerful support we receive. They strengthen us for the good work God has given us to do and for that we are grateful. Please share these prayers with friends and members of your congregation and invite them to join us in prayer as well.

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

On the Day of Pentecost

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Joseph M. Browne, Jr. (Joe) deeply cared about the efforts being made to maintain St. Mark’s, Roxobel. Sadly, COVID severely hurt those efforts, but we still care and still want to find ways to share our love for Jesus with the community.

To honor St. Mark’s Day, we will be holding Joe Browne’s memorial service on Saturday, April 27, at 11 AM. We will have lunch on the grounds following the service. All are welcome.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church PO Box 91 Roxobel, NC 27872.

For the Second Sunday of Advent

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Read Mark 1:1-8: “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals."
