Christ is risen…
…he is risen indeed!

Happy Easter from your Roxbury parishioners, young and old! ✝️

It was a joy to worship alongside familiar friends this morning, and we look forward to worshiping alongside new friends next week as we join McPherson First on Sunday April 12th to celebrate the confirmation of one of those young parishioners! So if you were planning on worshiping with us next week, we invite you to join us for the 10:15am service at McPherson FUMC on 1200 E Kansas Ave instead of Roxbury.

Have a blessed Easter,
Pastor Megan

Friends of Roxbury,

I am writing to share the following announcement made in worship today:

It is following careful prayer and discernment alongside the Bishop, Cabinet and DS Karen, that I have decided to accept my first full-time pastoral appointment.

This means that starting July 1st of this year, I will be the full-time pastor at Marquette United Methodist Church. Unfortunately, this also means that starting July 1st I will no longer be the pastor at Roxbury United Parish.

I feel that I have reached a point in my ministry journey where I am prepared for this full-time pastoral role, and it wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the connections, service, and growth that Roxbury has given me.

I want to thank you all for the support that you have shown me during our time together and for the love and faithful witness that you have shown this church. There has been so much that I have learned about what a resilient and faithful congregation and community can look like through serving Roxbury. In the midst of this transition, I know that your sense of fellowship and servanthood will be what stays constant.

I will be forever grateful for my time with you all and want to remind you that it is not over yet. We still have 3 more months of spiritual growth and connection to look forward to!

To mention some upcoming opportunities for spiritual growth, we will enter Holy Week with a Palm Sunday service on 3/29 at 11am followed by a brief Maundy Thursday service on Thursday 4/2 at 6pm, all leading to Easter Sunday on 4/5 at 11am. I look forward to continuing to gather with you all in prayer and presence as we prepare for Holy Week.

Know that God has done great things during our time together, and God will continue to do great things through the ministries and people of Roxbury United Parish. So, thank you again for accepting me as your pastor and for the lessons and memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my time in ministry.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Megan

Good evening Friends,

Whether you couldn’t attend an Ash Wednesday service today or you are looking for words of encouragement as we begin this Lenten season, I hope this devotion finds you wherever you may be.

I invite you to begin with reading the comforting words of Psalm 23:

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.”

In the darkness, we are reminded of our identity in Christ and that when we are lost, we are being sought out by a loving God who calls us each by name. As we begin this season of Lent, I invite you to take a moment to reflect on how you might be separated from God, thibkongof the things that have made you stop listening for God’s voice. As we acknowledge the ways that we fall short, hold onto the truth that God’s love for us moves beyond our failures. May we all spend these next 40 days listening for the voice of God and reminding ourselves who we belong to.

Blessings,
Pastor Megan

Good morning friends! In place of an in-person service, I invite you to read Matthew 4:12-23 and engage with the devotional below as well as the services mentioned at the end. May God’s presence be with you this morning:

In our scripture passage, Jesus is fulfilling the words of the prophet Isaiah, to become the light of salvation that has dawned on the people living in darkness. He goes and gathers his first disciples, fishermen who “left their nets and followed him.” Jesus’ ministry was just beginning, but his light was already bright enough for his first disciples to see and follow. In our world today, how can we see the light of Christ and follow? How can we be the light of Christ for others to follow? During times where we may feel pressured to live in darkness and look for the differences between us, may we find the strength to look for the light of Christ in each other, the love that brings us together. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote in his book Strength to Love, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” When we are met with darkness, let us turn to the light of Christ so that we may love our neighbor, feed the hungry, tend to the sick, and work for justice in our world. We sing in the hymn, Here I Am, Lord number 593 in the United Methodist Hymnal, we sing proclamations of a just God “I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?” Who will be the ones that share the light of Christ? Who will show love to God’s people? “Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.” God gives us the strength to follow the light and leads us in love so that others may find the light. When the darkness of night takes hold, the voice of God remains steadfast, calling us to bring the light of Christ into the world, so will we listen?

Sunday Service Alternatives:
- Salina Church of the Cross @ 10:30am (right now!) Facebook livestream service led by Rev. J.J. Martinez
- McPherson First United Methodist Church @ 11am YouTube livestream service led by Rev. Andrew Conard.

May we go into the world in peace, shining with the light of Christ.

Blessings,
Pastor Megan

Hello friends of Roxbury,

Due to the large amount of snowfall in the area and extremely low temperatures this weekend, we will be cancelling our service tomorrow. However, be on the lookout for a devotional posted tomorrow morning and a couple of suggestions for live-streamed services that other churches are providing. There might also be a musical surprise, so stay tuned. I am praying that everyone is able to stay safe and warm these next few days.

Blessings and peace,
Pastor Megan

Friends, As you know the predicted storm is arriving and roads are quite slippery. Out of care and concern for everyone's safety we will not have in person worship tomorrow. Though I will offer something online at 9 am on Facebook that I will share with all the churches I serve. Stay safe and please make sure you have provisions should the power go out where you are. +Grace and Peace, Pastor Libby
