❤️ Serving Our Community with Love ❤️

We are always proud to serve at Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano! Our St. James team recently had the opportunity to volunteer alongside an incredible organization making a meaningful impact in our community.

Over the previous week, Minnie’s Food Pantry provided food assistance to 2,304 people through their drive-thru distribution, including 121 first-time recipients.

Our volunteers served in many ways—from filling cars with much-needed food items at the drive-thru to sorting pallets and preparing donated items for distribution. Through every task, our group was reminded of the tremendous impact Minnie’s Food Pantry has on families throughout our community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to roll up our sleeves, serve with compassion, and put our faith into action. ❤️

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
— Matthew 25:40

Thank you to our wonderful St. James volunteers for giving their time, energy, and hearts to serve others! 🙏

What a wonderful evening of fellowship, meaningful conversation, and great food at our Women’s Ministry gathering yesterday!

Continuing our theme for this year, “Anchored in Hope,” our sisters shared a thoughtful discussion on building community, our purpose, our mission, and how we can intentionally grow together in faith and fellowship.

A special thank you to Sangeetha Thomas for leading such an engaging discussion, and to all our sisters who came with their beautiful spreads of food to share!

We are grateful for evenings like these that bring us closer together, and we look forward to our next gathering!

What a blessed and joy-filled weekend at St. James Orthodox Mission Church!

We were grateful to welcome our Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Ivanios, for his pastoral visit. His Grace led us in Evening Prayer on Saturday and celebrated the Divine Liturgy on Sunday. A special moment was the blessing of four of our acolytes for service in the Holy Altar. May God guide and strengthen them as they grow in faith and service to His Church.

We also kicked off a new Sunday School year with a fun and meaningful day for our children! Following a general session, they moved through different stations featuring classroom and teacher introductions, an icebreaker, service project, craft activity, and faith challenge, collecting a ticket upon completion for a surprise ice cream treat! A special thank you to our Sunday School teachers, leaders, parents, and volunteers who made the day possible.

Our blessed weekend concluded Sunday evening with the celebration of the Feast of the Holy Cross. Our Vicar was joined by Very Rev. Cherian Kunnel Cor-Episcopos, Fr. Geevarghese Ashich Mohan, and Sub-Deacon Mathew Varughese, and the faithful for Evening Prayer and Divine Liturgy.

A beautiful weekend of worship, fellowship, learning, and service. We give thanks to God for His abundant blessings upon our St. James family and pray that He continues to guide us as we grow together in faith!

Our parish enjoyed a blessed time of fellowship this past Sunday, sharing a traditional Kerala meal in celebration of the annual harvest festival observed in Kerala, India. The food was great, the décor was wonderful, and it was a joy to gather as one church family in faith, fellowship, and love!

A special thank you to our Women’s Ministry for beautifully coordinating the celebration and to our generous sponsors for providing the meal.

Through the generosity of everyone who supported our 2026 Golf Tournament Charity Fundraiser, we were blessed to designate a large portion of this year’s proceeds totaling $8,275.37 to Life Message, Inc., a local nonprofit based in the city of Rowlett where our church is now located. Life Message devotes its energy to passionately serving our community, veterans, seniors and families with food assistance, clothing & services that gives hope and a hand up.

Today after church, Chris Kizziar, founder and president of Life Message, met with our Vicar and parish trustee to receive the contribution. During their time together, Chris shared a meaningful connection with our church. Many years ago, when he first founded Life Message, the first group to volunteer with the ministry came from the Church of the Nazarene, the congregation that previously owned our church building.

Returning after many years, Chris was amazed to see how the church had been transformed and was touched that its present congregation had reached out to support the organization. It was a beautiful full-circle moment and a reminder of how God continues His work through different people and seasons.

Following a short prayer of offering and thanksgiving by our Vicar, the check was presented on behalf of our parish.

We are extremely grateful to our 2026 Golf Tournament coordinators, donors, sponsors, supporters, participating teams, volunteers, and entire church community. Your generosity and cheerful giving made this possible. May God bless your offering and use it to bring hope, help, and encouragement to many.

On this blessed Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, we rejoiced to witness the baptism, chrismation, and communion of our dear brother, Eli Meredith, as he was welcomed into the Holy Church and given the baptismal name, Elijah.

The name Elijah means, “The Lord is my God,” a beautiful confession of faith on this feast, as we remember the Theotokos, whose entire life proclaimed her complete faithfulness and devotion to God.

Having been part of the St. James Church community over the past year and an active member of the UTD campus ministry, Eli has become a dear brother in Christ to us all. May our Lord strengthen him in his new life in Christ and guide him in faith, hope, and love all the days of his life! Glory to God for all things!

As our students and teachers begin a new school year, we were blessed this past Sunday to offer a special prayer of dedication and blessing for them. Achen also encouraged our children to be a witness for Christ wherever they go: to be good, do good, and choose what is good.

May our Lord guide, protect, and strengthen all our students and teachers, granting them wisdom, joy, and peace throughout the year ahead!

What a blessing it was for our parish to host the 2026 Southern Regional Orthodox Sports Tournament last weekend! More than 400 players from parishes across the region came together for a wonderful weekend of faith, fellowship, and friendly competition in co-ed volleyball and basketball.

A heartfelt thank you to all the coordinators, parish representatives, participants, spectators, supporters, and especially our volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the tournament run smoothly and on time. We were also blessed to welcome many visitors for the Divine Liturgy and the trophy presentation on Sunday.

We are especially proud of our St. James teams! Our newly formed Boys D League (13 & under) brought home the championship trophy, while our Men’s Senior League played their hearts out and made it all the way to the championship game, finishing as runners-up!

Congratulations to all the teams and churches who participated. Glory to God for a memorable weekend and for the fellowship shared by our Orthodox community!
