Join us for worship tomorrow, the 13th Sunday after Pentecost. We have worship in-person, online or on the radio.
This Sunday our scripture and songs follow a common theme - the rock. The image and metaphor of a rock is used throughout scripture to represent the steadfast, loyal characteristics of our God. In this week's Gospel, Jesus renames Simon as Peter, which means 'the rock'. Ironically, Peter is also the one who sinks as he is trying to walk on water like Jesus. Peter is also the one who denies knowing Jesus three times before the rooster crowed. How can both things be true of Peter? How can he have rock-solid faith, and still deny Christ?
The scripture readings:
First Reading: Isaiah 51:1-6
