St. Mary of Egypt Russian Orthodox Church

St. Mary of Egypt Russian Orthodox Church The Head of the Church is our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. We welcome visitors from all over the world. The services of our church are in English.

We are a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church, a part of the worldwide Orthodox Church founded by our Lord Jesus Christ and spread throughout the world by His holy apostles and their successors. In obedience to Him we are led by His Holiness, Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow, and by His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. The clergy appointed by our hierar

chs to shepherd the parish are our two Rectors: Archimandrite John (Townsend) and Hieromonk Alexander (Lisnichuk) along with Mitered Archpriest Dimitri Oselinsky, Priest Daniel Iliev, Priest Mikhail Beliakov, Deacon Jude Rountree, and Deacon Peter Epstein. The church is located in Roswell, Georgia, and our parishioners come from all parts of the metropolitan Atlanta area and beyond. As part of the Orthodox Church we strive above all to unite ourselves to Christ our Savior. For this reason we are committed to the truth that He Himself embodied. We strive to follow the authentic and unchanged Holy Tradition given to us by Christ and His apostles for our salvation, and we welcome all who wish to take up the Cross of our Savior and join their efforts with ours in following Him. We also welcome all who are seeking the Church that teaches the unchanging truth proclaimed throughout all the centuries from the time that our Savior taught it and lived it on this earth to the present day, the Church that is united to Jesus Christ through an unbroken succession of those who proclaimed and struggled to live the life that He gave us. It is our goal to share the saving Gospel of Christ in its fullness as it is proclaimed faithfully by the Orthodox Church alone. Whether or not you are ready at this time to make your commitment with us, you are most welcome to "come and see."

Holy Pentecost
The Feast of Holy Pentecost is celebrated each year on the fiftieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter) and ten days after the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. The Feast is always celebrated on a Sunday.

The Feast commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost, a feast of the Jewish tradition. It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. The Feast is also seen as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity. Read more here: https://www.goarch.org/pentecost

The First Ecumenical Council: The Council of Nicaea, also known as the First Ecumenical Council, was held in the city of Nicaea in 325 AD. The city, (the present-day Turkish city of Iznik), was located in northwestern Asia Minor, some 90 miles southwest of Istanbul. The council brought together more than 250 bishops (according to tradition, the number is 318) to address several important issues facing the Christian Church at that time. Although it was not the first time that the Roman emperor Constantine had called Christian bishops together to address problems encountered by the Church, it was the most representative of all such gatherings and came to have an immediate and long-term impact on the life of the Church.

Christ is Risen!! Truly He is Risen!!!
Bright Monday -Bright Week is the first week following the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which is celebrated each year at Pascha. It ends the following Sunday, the Sunday of St. Thomas. For Orthodox Christians Bright Week begins a period of celebration that continues for fifty days until Pentecost.

This celebration includes the practice of the faithful joyously greeting each other with the salutation of Christ is risen, followed by the response Truly He is risen, as the whole of creation is renewed by Our Lord and Savior. The services of Bright Week are done with the Royal Doors fully open. This unblocked view of the altar symbolizes the open door of Christ's empty tomb as well as the rent veil of the Jewish Temple, which was torn apart at the moment Christ died.

"Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!"
