We offer each other the Sign of Peace every Sunday. Then we go home and practice it.

And that’s where it gets hard. Peace in a family doesn’t mean everyone gets along all the time. It means that when someone is hurt, we don’t settle for resentment, avoidance, or talking about each other instead of to each other.

This Sunday, Jesus gives His disciples a path back toward one another and parents have the opportunity to teach that path at home too.

Following Jesus doesn’t always mean choosing the easiest path.

Sometimes it means forgiving when you’d rather stay angry.

Sometimes it means standing alone when everyone else is going the other way.

Sometimes it means letting go of something you really don’t want to give up.

Jesus tells us to take up our cross and follow Him.
The good news? We never carry it alone.

Peter loved Jesus. And, Peter still got it wrong.
That’s worth remembering as parents.

We can love our children deeply and still be tempted to see their lives only through human eyes.

We want them to be…
• Happy
• Successful
• Included
• Comfortable
• Safe

These are all good things. But, Jesus points Peter toward something greater: the Father’s way.

The deepest question isn’t simply: What will make my child happy? It’s also: What is helping my child become the person God created them to be? Sometimes those answers will be the same. Sometimes following Jesus will ask for something more.
