Northbrook UMC is a church community for all ages:

*Children’s Ministry serves children age 6-weeks through 5th grade.

*Northbrook UMC Preschool weekday programs offers classes for children age one through five years.

*Youth Ministry engages 6th through 12th grade in fellowship.

*Adult Ministries include Sunday School classes, small group studies, Young Adult Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Women’s

Ministry, and an active Senior Ministry.

*Missions Ministry seeks opportunities for all ages to serve the community.

*Worship services on Sunday are in indispensable element in our journeys of faith. We worship as a community in order to share our experience of God with others and be encouraged by their faith. Northbrook UMC is not a building but a group of people who choose to let God transform their lives and the way they see the world. It is amazing to watch what can happen when a bunch of different people from all walks of life gather together with one simple thing in common: Jesus.

Fellowship Friday | Dianne Hiers

You may know Dianne as the person behind Wednesday Night Dinner, but do you know how she ended up leading this ministry?

Last year, when someone was needed to lead Wednesday Night Dinner, Dianne surprised even herself by saying, “I’ll do it!”

What started with a little uncertainty has become a ministry of connection, fellowship and belonging — and last year, 90 volunteers helped make it happen.

This Friday in The Log, Dianne shares the story behind Wednesday Night Dinner, what she’s learned along the way, and why this ministry has become so meaningful to her.

For now, we’ll just say we’re grateful she said yes.

Ministry Feature | Brown Baggers

Looking for ways to get involved and find community at Northbrook?

Our men’s small group, the “Brown Baggers,” meets every Wednesday at noon for fellowship, conversation, and Bible study. Members bring their own lunches to enjoy together—and that simple tradition is how the group got its name!

If you’re interested in joining, contact Mike Shackelford for more information.

Come as you are, bring your lunch, and join the conversation. We’d love to have you!

In the words of Dolly Parton… 🎀

“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

A beautiful reminder of purpose, joy, and using the gifts we’ve been given. What a great way to close out worship.

A special thanks to our Director of Worship and Music, Dr. Chad Hunt, for sharing his gift. 🎶

Sunday Recap | August 23

As we closed out our sermon series, “Seeding the Kingdom,” yesterday, we experienced so many moments of what it looks like to live that out. Here are just a few highlights captured in these photos:

• Gathered in community through Sunday school groups
• Lingered after worship to fellowship on the patio
• Used our gifts and talents to lead worship
• Served quietly behind the scenes as volunteers
• Learned what it means to serve as an acolyte
• Celebrated the 66th wedding anniversary of Margaret and Karl Hube

These are just a few of the beautiful moments that happen each Sunday at Northbrook UMC. We’d love for you to join us again next week and be part of these tiny little moments that make up the life of our church.

Until we meet again, know that you are loved.

🌸 Fellowship Friday | Volunteer Spotlight 🌸

This Fellowship Friday, we’re celebrating one of the beautiful people who helps bring beauty to our church through our flower ministry, Emily Johnson.💐

For her, working with flowers is about much more than arranging blooms. It’s about creativity, flexibility and learning to let the flowers have a say in the process. She learned her craft by taking apart arrangements and giving flowers a new life.

For her, creating these arrangements is a holy moment. Whether in celebration, memory or dedication, she takes the time to match the creation to those it is honoring. While she is working, she gets to reflect and remember the person.

On average, one arrangement takes about 7 hours per week to complete and about 10 if she is working on two.

If you’re curious, her favorite flower is peonies, but she has a deep appreciation for many different blooms.

We are so grateful for the creativity, time and heart she pours into this ministry and into the life of our church.

Help us celebrate her and all of our incredible volunteers who use their gifts to make Northbrook a more beautiful place!

Community is built by showing up, lending a hand and building something together.

We’re thankful for our Northbrook UMC volunteers who recently spent a day serving with Habitat for Humanity.
