Black History is American History. National Public Radio highlights that "this history is foundational to the nation's democracy, culture, and progress - not separate." Founded by Dr. Carter Woodson 100 years ago, it was designed to ensure Black History was included as American History. In Unity, we celebrate and honor all God's children - in February - and all year long.

Happy New Year! Let us trust in the loving Presence of God that is always available to us, showing up wherever we are. Let us open our hearts to all the love that surrounds & enfolds us, directing us to live from a peaceful, loving heart. With my heart open wide, I discovered "Sky," a beautiful Husky who had been tied up tightly outside a neighborhood market. When I learned she had been there for several hours, some of us came to her rescue. We walked her / fed her / pet her / loved her, until we finally found her owners - who promised to never forget her, again. I invite us to pay close attention to that which - and to those whom - bring us great joy now and in 2026! Promise?

Thank you, Jane Goodall, for opening my eyes and my heart to discover ways in which I can make a positive difference on our planet - in my own, small way. You have truly been a role model for so many of us. As a youngster fascinated by stories & pictures in the National Geographic magazines, I discovered my own passion for wildlife & nature, finding myself visiting Tanzania & Zanzibar. Your impact lead the way. Your dedication expanded awareness of chimpanzees and their impact on our lives, and vice versa. Your life consisted of fighting for the rights of animals, people, and the environment, so all may live fully and freely, with deep compassion & respect. Your leadership has moved hearts & souls. Summer vacation in Michigan led me to Maryville Retreat Center after my search for the former Guardian Angel Camp where I spent summers as a child. Growing up at the Guardian Angel Home in Detroit, I was raised by the Felician Sisters who provided for my every need, which included attending camp. It is the same place, I found out. My same "cabin" is standing, along with a few other buildings., as well as newer structures. Loved my stay on these beautiful, sacred grounds, and I plan to visit, again. After interviewing me about the previous camp, Sister Noel took me for a boat ride - on the very lake in which I learned to swim - after one whole summer of just putting my face underwater (that's another story).
