The Buddhist Society Club closed the semester with a trip to Escondido Falls and Malibu Beach. Together, students new and old hiked 3.5 miles round-trip, crossing little streams along the way before reaching the majestic waterfall.

It was a beautiful way to end the semester in friendship and community. We are especially grateful for those who joined us, including the students who will be departing this semester. We will miss them very much and wish them peace and success on the road ahead!

Last Friday, the Buddhist Society Club along with UWest Chaplaincy Department organized an offering to the homeless communities in downtown Los Angeles.

With support from students, faculty, staff, and the wider UWest community, we prepared and distributed:

100 care packages with water, fruit, snacks, sandwiches, and towels
50 additional sandwiches
10 blankets
14 jackets
20 new T-shirts

Alongside these offerings, students and club members also spent time speaking with people, offering presence, care, kindness, and a simple moment of human connection.

Thank you to everyone who contributed items, helped pack, or joined the offering. Special thanks to President Ta, Professor Jitsujo, Vanessa Karam, Stephanie, the Chaplaincy Department, and Student Life for their support.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Buddhist Society Club for the Manzanar Pilgrimage last Saturday. Together, we witnessed the annual commemoration honoring the lives of the 120,000 people of Japanese descent who were forcibly relocated during World War II, including approximately 10,000 who were interned at Manzanar. It was a solemn opportunity to remember their suffering, dignity, and endurance.

The Buddhist Society Club was grateful to spend time in service at Hua Shia Buddhist Association in Monterey Park, helping garden, pull weeds, and clean up with resident nun Venerable Anzhen. It was a good day of simple, meaningful work, and a reminder that care for the temple grounds is also a form of practice.

The Buddhist Society Club was glad to join the UWest community on Saturday in attending and participating in the VegRun hosted by Hsi Lai Temple, alongside members of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) and students from the Three Acts of Goodness (TAG) School, this time hosted at Whittier Narrows.

Together we walked and biked along the track, shared a brief meditation, and enjoyed a meal together afterward. It was a joyful day of movement, mindfulness, friendship, and community.

Thank you to all the students who joined the Buddhist Society Club for our Sunday trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park!

We had a wonderful time enjoying Japanese festivities, including concerts, martial arts, and cherished traditions such as tea ceremonies, as well as a Japanese Zen Buddhist blessing!

It was also a pleasure to see Dr. Kanae Omura there demonstrating the traditional tea ceremony. Along the way, we met many wonderful vendors, including with their beautiful handmade crafts and .health, which provides exceptional care for senior citizens in the SGV.

From the delicious food to the lively festivities— and even meeting Kumamon!— it was truly a joyful and memorable day together 🙏 🌸

The Buddhist Society Club made a wonderful trip to the Cambodian New Year celebration in Long Beach, where we enjoyed delicious Khmer and Lao food, took part in the festive atmosphere, and watched beautiful traditional dances.

In Cambodia, the New Year marks the end of the harvest season with traditional rituals, games, and water festivities. The day began with an amazing parade on Anaheim Street followed by a festival at Long Beach City College. It was a joyful day filled with culture, community, and celebration.

Special thanks to Dulani for her lovely pictures from the event!

On Friday, the Buddhist Society Club brought together over thirty people— students, faculty, and friends— for a trip to Big Bear Lake.

After a car journey of more than two hours, we made our way high into the 7000ft mountains and along the lakeside, where the day culminated in a brief but rewarding session of meditation and yoga.

“I looked at trees and flowers; they were my Dharma companions,” wrote Ven. Master Hsing Yun. “I walked across rivers and plains, which offered limitless Dharma delight.” Whatever the chaos of the world, nature has a special way of quieting the mind and softening the heart.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared in the experience. It was a joy to spend time together in nature, reflection, and community. We are deeply grateful for your presence and hope the day brought you a little peace, clarity, and happiness.
