ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ GARRICK TROUP Feb. 7, 1972, to Sept. 20, 2024.Our wonderful Bobby Troup passed away Sept. 20, 2024, from a heart attack. Bobby was predeceased by his grandparents, his father Roy Troup and his mother Darlene “Dee” Doyle Brown Troup. He is survived by his much loved and adored Koalani and her son Jed; his half siblings, Rick Brown (Stephany), Gary Brown, Debi Gowey (Kevin) and Ken Brown. He had a special relationship with his grandnephew, Emmet Mazelin. Nieces and nephews: Marcus Brown, Mallory Serrao, Michael Whitaker, Jennifer Bormuth, Jeff Brown. Cousins: Charles, Ian and Eric Ridley. He had so many dear friends from every part of his life, including Jason Byers.Bobby was born in Eugene and raised in Roseburg, Oregon. He attended school in Roseburg, making tons of friends whom he spoke of often. He was successful in so many sports: baseball, basketball, cross country and tennis — his favorite. He participated in yearbook, leadership, Youth for Christ Campus Life, drama and much more. He was prom king and senior class president, graduating in 1990. Following high school, he moved to New York City for a year to attend modeling school. He then enrolled at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California and attended from 1991 to 1996, on a tennis scholarship while studying political science.Bobby’s siblings were adults by the time he was born, so he grew up as a much-loved only child. As his parents were older and not able to participate in all his activities, he was “adopted” by many of the parents of his friends. They transported him to sporting events, had him to their homes for meals and took him with them on vacations. He often said the entire town of Roseburg raised him.His tennis career began at Umpqua Valley Tennis Center in grade school. He spent much of his free time there, helping out where he could with teaching and assisting. He played varsity tennis all three years at Roseburg High School and then four years at Azusa. Immediately after college he left for Europe with his doubles partner Bill Bush to play a professional tennis circuit in France. He then returned to the states, moving first to Portland and then teaching tennis in Seattle, Salem, Eugene and back again in Roseburg. He also coached the boys’ tennis team at South Eugene High School for a season.While at Azusa he bought his first camera and learned photography, coming home to Roseburg to shoot, especially senior portraits. While in Portland, he began shooting fashion and commercials for Portland and Seattle modeling agencies. He said his favorite photography subjects of all were the kids at weddings, because they were dressed so nicely but still behaving as kids do, ignoring wedding formalities.Bobby’s “Troup” family history was a great source of pride. He was an avid collector of stories, photos and information about the vast accomplishments of grandfather Captain Roy W. Troup, great-grandfather Captain James William Troup and great-great-grandfather Captain William H. Troup.Bobby wore many hats in his life. Tennis professional, photographer, rock band manager, party promoter, working with Jason at Roseburg Book & Stationary and most recently running his collectibles business at Mid Oregon Printing. Above all else, he was proud to be a coach and friend to so many.Bobby especially enjoyed family time with his sister Debi, Kevin and their grandson, Emmet. Hiking, snow tubing, a raft trip, water balloon and hose fights and zip lining. So much laughter and love with this guy. Debi really loved catching him unaware and playing April Fools pranks on him. Bobby was such a good sport! We will all miss him so very much.
