Who is Shepherd of the Lakes? Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod - WELS. Formed in 1991, our first service was on July 22nd of that year. We began under the name “St. Martin” — worshiping in the Roscommon County Senior Center at 510 South St. in Roscommon for nearly 24 years. In the spring of 2014 we purchased what was for 3 years the Rosc
ommon District Library to be used as our church. Having our own place in the community inspired us to change our name to one that fits the community we are here to serve. Given the prominent role the many lakes play in our area, we think the name “Shepherd of the Lakes” fits pretty well. Why are we here among the lakes? Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church is here, first and foremost, to share the message of God’s salvation through his Son Jesus to the people of our community, and around the world through our support of the WELS. We are a Lutheran Church, which means we hold unwaveringly to what God’s Word says. We teach God’s Word in all its truth and purity. At times that can get pretty ugly, as it shows us just how sinful we are. But then comes the beauty of the gospel, the good news that Jesus lived, died, and rose again to take our sins away. At times, teaching the unchanging truth of God’s Word in this ever-changing world can be difficult. But our love for Jesus prompts us to hold to all of his Word in heartfelt thanksgiving for all that God has done for us. Want to check us out? You can reach the church office at 989.275.3070
