Luke 16:19-31: Jesus tells a parable about a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus. The story is one of belief and unbelief, not the circumstances of one's life. Lazarus did not go to heaven because he was poor, but because of his faith in God. The rich man did not go to Hades because of his wealth; it was his unbelief in God. Our "good works or life circumstances" do not give us eternal salvation; only believing in Christ and His death on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and his resurrection has the power to give us eternal life.
