Christian Brothers Services is a nonprofit organization that administers cooperative programs in the areas of health/retirement, property/casualty and consulting/technology to church organizations. Founded in 1960 by Brother Joel Damian, FSC, Christian Brothers Services began as a mutual cooperative purchasing group for Chicago area high schools conducted by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Und

er Brother Damian’s leadership, the Brothers realized that pooling the financial resources and risk exposures of the schools would allow both the congregation and the individual institutions greater financial strength and leverage to purchase better coverage, with higher limits, at significantly reduced costs; benefits that commercial insurance carriers could not offer nonprofit organizations. Over time, the company has grown to administer and serve 11 Trusts, which provide a variety of programs to congregations, organizations and dioceses both in the United States and Canada.

We recently had the privilege of visiting the Sisters of St. Benedict in Rock Island, Illinois —a community whose commitment to stewardship and care for creation is evident throughout their ministry.

Their Saint Mary Monastery and Retreat Center is virtually energy‑independent, supported by a solar farm and geothermal heating and cooling beneath the lake near the chapel.

At Christian Brothers Services, these member visits are about listening, learning, and strengthening partnerships. By understanding each ministry’s mission and operational priorities, we’re better equipped to provide services that support long‑term sustainability.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside the Sisters of St. Benedict and witness how faith and stewardship come together in meaningful ways.

From winter travel to warm conversations in Phoenix, our recent member visits were a powerful reminder of why our mission matters.

The CBS team had the privilege of connecting with mission‑driven organizations across Arizona—from the Crosier Fathers & Brothers and the Sisters of St. Benedict pf Maricopa County to Andre House of Hospitality and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Each is doing transformative work in service to the Catholic Church and to neighbors in need.
