Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus gathered in an upper room with his disciples. They were having a Passover seder. Yet it turned into so much more. Jesus established a new covenant that gave us a window to see the redemption that would be paid for by His sacrifice on the cross the following day. Come join us on Sunday at 11:00 AM as we remember the Last Supper on World Communion Sunday. Through communion, we are all invited to become one as members of the body of Christ.

ACTING VERSUS BEING
Do you ever wonder what it means to be a disciple? Whether you were raised in the church or not, you probably remember that as a child, you were told what to do and what not to do. Most of you probably remember being told that you should "act" or that you "are acting" a certain way... "Act your age"; "You are acting like an idiot"; you get the picture.
What if we went a step further. In fact, let's move it to another zip code. Why act like something when you can actually be something? Jesus used the term 'hypocrite' often, and he used it most often to describe the Pharisees. Hypocrite comes the Greek hupokrités which means actor or performer.
When we just go through the motions or become creatures of habit, then we are in danger of being hypocrites. In Matthew 23:27, Jesus warned the Pharisees that they are “like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of impurity." They may have been seen as holy leaders, but their hearts say otherwise.
Old hymns may seem simple in their message, but their simplicity is what makes them beautiful. Rufus H. McDaniel wrote 'Since Jesus Came into My Heart' in the wake of his son's death. If you feel that your insides are dead, or that instead of being in this world you are merely a participant, perhaps you can let Jesus in to transform your heart. Allow Jesus to touch and transform you. This way, you might follow the path to being what He wants you to be instead of acting the way the world wants you to act.

As the season of Holy Week kicks off tomorrow, I reflect on the Jewish Passover Seder Song of Dayenu. Perhaps you have been keeping up with the ANGEL streaming service show, THE CHOSEN. In a scene that encapsulates the power of God's grace and mercy, the women who are serving in Jesus' ministry share their own version of the Dayenu song with Jesus. This is a spoiler alert, as this scene takes place near the end of the latest season, so you might want to hold off on watching this if you have not yet seen it. I've watched this scene at least a half-dozen times and it stirs my soul with fire every time. But whether or not you watch this, no matter where you are in your life, take time to count every blessing. The fact that this scene is moving is not just for great dramatic effect, but it should cause all people to see if they could give back all but one of their blessings, look to the Lord, and say to Him, "it would have been enough."
