Today’s Reflection — Be With Him First
What stands out is the order Jesus gives us.
Before He sent the disciples out to serve, teach, help, or accomplish anything, He called them “that they might be with Him.”

First, be with Jesus. Then, be sent.
It is easy to become focused on what we are supposed to do for God. We can serve, organize, help others, build community, encourage people, and become so occupied with the work that we forget where the work begins.

Jesus doesn’t first say, Go accomplish something for Me. He says, in essence, Come be with Me.

Their ministry flowed from their relationship with Him.
And perhaps that is today’s reminder: our usefulness to God isn’t measured only by how much we accomplish. Fruitfulness begins with remaining close to Christ.
There will be seasons when He sends us out, and seasons when He draws us closer. Sometimes He may even slow our pace so we can hear Him again.

❤️ Reflection Question
Am I spending enough time simply being with Jesus—or have I become more focused on what I am doing for Him?

🙏 Prayer
Jesus, before I serve You, let me be with You. Before I move, let me hear You. Before I try to understand where You are sending me, teach me simply to stay close to You. When it is time to go, send me. Until then, let my heart remain with You. Amen.

“They said to him, ‘John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.’”
— Luke 5:33

At first, this sounds like a question about fasting. But underneath it is a question about comparison and expectations.
People were looking at Jesus’ disciples and essentially saying: “Why aren’t they doing what everyone else is doing?”

And Jesus doesn’t allow other people’s expectations to determine what His disciples should be doing in that particular season.

💗 The reflection for today: What season is God asking you to live in?

Jesus answers that there will be a time for fasting—but this wasn’t that time. The bridegroom was with them. This was a season to receive His presence.

That speaks beautifully : not every season has the same rhythm.

There are seasons for striving and seasons for resting.
Seasons for holding on and seasons for releasing.
Seasons for grieving and seasons for celebrating.
Seasons for walking hundreds of miles—and seasons for simply being still with God.

And other people may not understand the rhythm God has given you.

Luke 5:33 reminds us that we don’t have to look around and ask, “Am I doing this the way everyone else is?”

A better question is:
“Jesus, what are You asking of me in this season?”

And there is another beautiful layer here. Immediately afterward, Jesus begins talking about new garments and new wineskins (Luke 5:36–39)—the very truth you’ve recently been reflecting on. Something new cannot always be forced into the patterns that belonged to an old season.

🌸 Question for your heart today
Where might you still be measuring this season of your life against what life used to look like—or what other people think it should look like—instead of receiving the rhythm Jesus is giving you now?

September 5: “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:20-21

Jesus isn’t saying that earthly things don’t matter. We need homes, money, food, security, and resources to live. Rather, He is asking us something deeper:

What has possession of my heart?
There is an important distinction between having something and treasuring something. We can responsibly care for what God has entrusted to us without making those things the source of our identity, security, or peace.

And “treasure in heaven” isn’t only about what happens after we die. Every time we love someone, serve someone, forgive, encourage, give generously, show kindness, pray for another person, or faithfully follow God when nobody sees it, we are investing in something that cannot be taken away.

That makes this a beautiful heart-check:
If someone looked at where I spend my time, energy, attention, love, and resources, what would they say I treasure most?

And perhaps Jesus is inviting you today not simply to ask, What do I need to hold onto? but:

“Lord, what is worth carrying with me?”

Possessions change. Circumstances change. Relationships can change. Even the things that once made life feel secure can change. But what God develops within us—faith, compassion, courage, generosity, love, and the lives we touch—becomes a treasure of a completely different kind.

Prayer
Lord Jesus,
help me recognize what truly matters.
Teach me to hold earthly things with open hands
and eternal things close to my heart.
May my time, my resources, my love, and my life
be invested in what matters to You.
When I am tempted to find security in things that can change,
bring my heart back to You.
Let the treasure of my life be found in loving You,
loving people, and faithfully serving wherever You lead me.
In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.

Today’s thought:
Where my treasure goes, my heart follows. So today, Lord, help me place my treasure where I want my heart to be.

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.” — Matthew 17:20

What stands out to me today is that Jesus does not say you need enormous faith. He points to something almost unbelievably small—a mustard seed.
🌱 The Mustard Seed

A mustard seed looks insignificant. You can hold it between your fingertips and barely notice it. Yet contained inside that tiny seed is everything necessary for growth.

Jesus is teaching something beautiful about faith: the power isn’t in how big our faith feels. The power is in the God our faith rests upon.

There will be days when faith feels strong and confident. And there will be days when all we can manage is:
“Jesus, I don’t understand this, but I still trust You.”
That is still faith.
You don’t have to know where the entire road leads before taking today’s step.

⛰️ “Move from here to there”

Jesus uses an extraordinary picture:

“You will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.”

The mountain doesn’t necessarily disappear overnight.
Sometimes God moves the mountain.
Sometimes He makes a path through it.
And sometimes He changes us while we’re climbing it.

The mustard seed reminds us that we don’t have to manufacture enough faith to control the outcome. We place whatever faith we have into God’s hands and continue walking with Him.

There is an important difference between saying:

“I have enough faith that God will give me the outcome I want.”
and
“I have enough faith to trust God with whatever the outcome becomes.”

The second is deeper.
That kind of faith says:
I don’t need to see the whole road.
I don’t need every answer today.
I don’t even need to feel strong today.
I just need enough faith for the next step.
And a mustard seed is enough.

🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that You do not ask me to have perfect or enormous faith. Take the faith I have today, even when it feels as small as a mustard seed, and grow it. When mountains stand before me, remind me that they are never greater than You. Help me receive what You give me, trust what I cannot yet see, and keep walking wherever You lead me. Let my faith rest not in the outcome I desire, but in You. Amen.

Today’s question:
What is the “mountain” in front of you right now that Jesus may be asking you to stop trying to move yourself—and simply trust Him with?

Faith Can Still Ask Questions
John knew Jesus. He had baptized Him. He had witnessed the Spirit descend upon Him. He had boldly proclaimed who Jesus was.

And yet now John was sitting in prison.
His circumstances didn’t look anything like what he might have expected after faithfully serving God. So John asked Jesus a remarkably vulnerable question:
“Are you really the One?”

What strikes me is that Jesus did not condemn John for asking.

Sometimes faith isn’t having absolutely no questions. Sometimes faith is bringing our questions directly to Jesus instead of allowing them to pull us away from Him.
There are seasons when we can know what God has done before and still wonder what He is doing right now. We may have trusted Him completely and still find ourselves somewhere we never expected to be.

John’s prison did not erase his calling.

And our difficult seasons do not erase God’s faithfulness.
Perhaps today’s question isn’t, “Why am I here?” but:

“Jesus, even when my circumstances don’t look the way I expected, will I still trust who You are?”

🙏 Prayer
Lord Jesus, when I cannot understand what You are doing, help me remember who You are. When my circumstances cause me to question, let my questions lead me closer to You rather than away from You. Give me faith to trust You even when the road looks different from what I expected. I receive what You have for me today. I trust You with what I cannot see. And I will continue to walk with You. Amen.

Paul tells us that he pleaded with the Lord three times to take away his “thorn.” God’s response wasn’t, I will take it away. Instead, it was essentially: My grace will be enough for you here.
That changes how we understand difficult seasons.

Sometimes we pray for God to change the circumstance: Lord, fix this. End this. Take this burden away. Give me the answer. And sometimes His provision is not immediate deliverance from the circumstance. His provision is sufficient grace within it. And notice the second half:

“My power is made perfect in weakness.”

God isn’t requiring you to be strong enough to carry everything yourself. Weakness can actually become the place where dependence on Him becomes clearest. There are days when faith looks powerful and confident. And there are days when faith simply says, “Jesus, I don’t have much today, but I’m still following You.”

Both are faith.
This scripture adds something beautiful;
I don’t have to have enough strength for tomorrow. His grace is sufficient for today.

🌸 Reflection Question
What is the one thing you have been asking God to remove or resolve—and what might change if, just for today, instead of asking Him to take it away, you asked: “Lord, show me how Your grace is enough for me here”?
Maybe today’s prayer isn’t “Lord, get me out of this.”
Maybe it’s:
“Lord, meet me in this. Let Your strength carry what mine cannot.”

Sometimes God gives us opportunities to step outside ourselves and simply serve. 💗 I’m grateful for every chance to show up, encourage others, and let His love shine through. 🙏👑🥰
When we lead with a servant’s heart, even the smallest “yes” can have purpose. 🙏✨
