One of the easiest traps in the Christian life is believing that we are missing something we need in order to faithfully follow God. We think, “If I were stronger… if I knew more… if my circumstances were different… then I could really live for the Lord.”
But Peter gives us an incredible promise: God has already given us everything we need for life and godliness.
Notice where it comes from. Peter says it comes through “His divine power.” The Christian life was never intended to be lived through human strength alone. God doesn’t simply tell us how we ought to live and then leave us to figure it out. The same God who calls us also supplies the power we need to answer that call.
And notice what He has provided: “everything pertaining to life and godliness.” Not some things. Not most things. Everything.
That doesn’t mean God gives us everything we want. It means He gives us everything we need to become the people He has called us to be.
When you need wisdom, He provides it.
When you need strength, He provides it.
When you need grace, He provides it.
When you need direction, He provides it.
Our problem isn’t that God hasn’t provided enough. Our problem is that we forget what we already possess in Christ.
Peter also reminds us that this comes “through the true knowledge of Him.” Spiritual growth isn’t primarily about learning a set of religious rules. It is about knowing Jesus more deeply. The closer we walk with Christ, the more His power shapes our lives.
So when you face something today that seems bigger than you, remember this: God has not called you to something without providing what you need to walk faithfully through it.
You may not have everything you want. You may not know everything that is coming. You may not feel completely prepared.
But in Christ, you have everything you need to take the next faithful step.
