***TOMORROW AT THE CREEK***

“MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.”

You’ve probably heard it.You may have even heard someone say, “The Bible says…” But does it? Not exactly.

The Bible actually says:
“For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil…”
1 Timothy 6:10.

That difference matters. Money isn’t the problem. The heart is. Money can be a wonderful servant-but it makes a terrible master.

This Sunday, we continue our “Bible or Bust” series by examining one of the most commonly misquoted statements in Scripture. “Money is the Root of all Evil”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB 1995)

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most encouraging verses in Scripture, but its setting makes it even more powerful. God spoke these words to His people while they were living in exile in Babylon. They wanted to go home, but God told them their exile would last seventy years.

In other words, God did not promise them an immediate escape from difficulty. He promised them that their difficulty had not canceled His purpose.

That is an important reminder for us. Sometimes we assume that if God has a plan, everything should fall into place quickly. But God’s plan may include seasons we would never choose; waiting, disappointment, uncertainty, or unanswered questions.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us of three simple truths:

First, God knows the plan even when we don’t. We may not understand what God is doing, but He is never confused about what He is doing.
Second, Our present circumstances are not the end of the story. Israel was in Babylon, but Babylon was not their final destination. Where you are today does not necessarily tell you where God is taking you.
Third, We can trust God while we wait. Our hope is not that everything will happen according to our plan. Our hope is that God remains faithful to His purposes.

Sometimes faith simply says, “Lord, I don’t understand the plan, but I trust the One who does.”

“Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”
— Psalm 55:22, NASB 1995

David knew what it felt like to carry a heavy heart. Psalm 55 was written during a season of betrayal, fear, and overwhelming pressure. Yet in the middle of it all, David gives us a simple instruction: “Cast your burden upon the LORD.”

The word cast carries the idea of throwing or placing something upon another. God never intended for us to carry every burden by ourselves. Sometimes we pray about a problem but then pick it right back up and continue worrying about it. We give it to God with our words while continuing to carry it in our minds.

Notice that God does not promise to immediately remove every burden. Instead, He promises something even more personal: “He will sustain you.” Sometimes God changes the circumstances; other times He gives us the strength to walk through them. Either way, He remains faithful.

Think about carrying a heavy suitcase through an airport when someone stronger offers to carry it for you. You can keep struggling simply because it is your suitcase, or you can hand it over. Many of us do the same thing spiritually. God says, “Give Me the weight.”

Whatever is weighing on you today; your family, finances, health, ministry, future, or a decision you don’t know how to make, place it in God’s hands.

The burden may be too heavy for you, but it is never too heavy for God.

Jude 1:22 (NASB 1995):
“And have mercy on some, who are doubting.”

Jude spends much of his short letter warning believers about false teaching and urging them to “contend earnestly for the faith.” But then he reminds us that not everyone who struggles with their faith needs to be confronted harshly. Some need mercy.

There is a difference between someone who is deliberately rejecting the truth and someone who is honestly struggling to understand it. Doubt does not always come from rebellion. Sometimes it comes from disappointment, unanswered prayer, suffering, confusion, or fear.

Our natural reaction may be to correct someone immediately: “You shouldn’t think that way. You just need more faith.” But Jude says, “Have mercy.”

Think about how Jesus dealt with Thomas. Thomas said he would not believe unless he saw the wounds of Christ. When Jesus appeared, He did not humiliate Thomas. He graciously gave him what he needed and invited him to believe.

That should shape the way we treat people who are struggling spiritually.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is listen before we lecture.

Someone may not need us to win an argument. They may need us to sit beside them, hear their questions, pray with them, and gently point them back to Christ.

When someone expresses doubt, don’t immediately assume they are walking away from God. Ask questions. Listen carefully. Speak truth, but speak it with compassion. God may use your mercy to help restore their confidence in Him.

Happy Monday Everyone! We had a wonderful day yesterday at the Creek worshiping our Lord and an incredible sermon from Pastor Jeff on debunking another coming phrase people mistakenly believe that it is in scripture, Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Let's kick off our week with some and remember that Jesus' love is more than enough!

Also, don't forget to come join us for our tomorrow at the Creek. This week we will only have one Bible study session, tomorrow night @6:30pm. Plus be sure to join us on Wednesday night for all of our regular midweek services!
