Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Pope Francis died earlier this morning in Rome at the age of 88. See below for a message from Bishop McClory. (También en español)

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

His Holiness Pope Francis passed from this earthly life this morning on April 21, 2025, in Vatican City. I ask you to please join me in praying for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, who was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. I encourage the custom of praying the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be to the Father and praying the Rosary for the repose of his soul.

In his Easter blessing, Pope Francis shared the following message:
"All those who put their hope in God place their feeble hands in his strong and mighty hand; they let themselves be raised up and set out on a journey. Together with the risen Jesus, they become pilgrims of hope, witnesses of the victory of love and of the disarmed power of Life…

In the Lord’s Paschal Mystery, death and life contended in a stupendous struggle, but the Lord now lives forever (cf. Easter Sequence). He fills us with the certainty that we too are called to share in the life that knows no end, when the clash of arms and the rumble of death will be heard no more. Let us entrust ourselves to him, for he alone can make all things new (cf. Rev. 21:5)!"

Pope Francis lived out the joy of the Gospel from the first day of his pontificate until his last breath. He consistently reminded us that the Church should be looking outward to love and accompany others as they draw closer to Jesus. The best tribute that we could give to Pope Francis is to show someone today how much Jesus loves them by what we say and do.

We unite in prayer with Catholics around the world and all people of goodwill in gratitude for the life of our Pope Francis and pray during this Easter season, as we celebrate His resurrection, that our Lord will bless Pope Francis with the reward of eternal life.

Your Servant,
Most Reverend Robert J. McClory
Bishop of Gary

Happy Feast of St. John Kanty, our parish's patron! Although they lived 500 years apart, St. John of Kanty and Pope St. John Paul II attended the same university in Poland and JPII had a great devotion to the medieval saint.

Saint John of Kanty, Priest: raised to the priesthood, he held for many years the position of professor in the University of Kraków. He then undertook the pastoral care of the parish of Olkusz where, enriching sound doctrine with virtue, he became an example of piety and love of neighbor to his collaborators and disciples. On the day following this day he journeyed to heavenly joys at Kraków in Poland. - Roman Martyrology

Saint John of Kanty, Priest, pray for us!

✝️ PLEASE NOTE: the priests who usually assist Father during the Triduum are unavailable this year. Because of this, and because Father can't bi-locate 😉, the Triduum Masses and services will be held at St. John Kanty only. Easter *Sunday* Mass will still be offered at both parishes. See below for more details and for Confession times at both parishes.

Census information sheets will shortly be available at the entrances ***for all families who wish to be considered parishioners of either St. Anthony or St. John Kanty.***

The past three years, coupled with a long period of Mass only being available via livestream, has had a devastating effect on many parishes. It is difficult to know the present status of those who consider themselves as parishioners of any particular parish.

Sadly, many have simply disappeared from active participation in the practice of the Faith.

In order to reassess where we are and where we need to go, it is necessary for us to re-register the members of our parishes. For those who fail to do so, we will assume they **no longer** consider themselves a part of either St.Anthony or St. John Kanty.

It is essential that we have a current record of permanent residents. But since both parishes are lake communities, it is helpful to know who our summer residents are as well. A special listing may be found on the census sheets for the latter. It would be appreciated if these sheets could be returned within two weeks of their distribution. Your cooperation is essential.
