Monte de Horeb Ministries, Inc. welcomes back team leader, Kevin, who brought along all returned friends from this year and one from last year, Aaron and his lovely wife Loree, Matt, and Hahns. These five folks brought servant hearts and ready to do what God had called each one to do go and serve unto the ends of the earth. They also brought light to a family who needed to see Jesus’ light this past week. They blessed Pastora and Anderson as they were blessed. Pastora, mother of three beautiful and loving children Youlany, Melvin, and Anderson. Pastora and her son, Anderson, mute and deaf, age sixteen had a dark cloud sat down on them a few months back but God allowed them both to persevere and get their foundation ready right up to the day the team arrived in Honduras. Pastora and Anderson’s church family came out to help them with the foundation so everyone would be ready to start the home the first day. Pastor Saul is a member of their church and was supportive the entire week making sure Pastora had women there to help her prepare those delicious meals the Honduran staff, Nicholas, Onil, Cesar, and Manuel along with the North American team and Pastora’s children and her brother who drove eight hours to help his sister receive her new home. Kevin shared during devotionals one evening,” I could have been behind a computer all week but instead God allowed me to come here and once again be blessed beyond any words. This family was in a dark place says Kevin and we by being obedient brought light to their darkness.”
As the week unfolded the concern of not being able to communicate with Anderson was very short lived. Anderson’s smile was a contagious joy for everyone on this project. He brought a ray of sunshine each day. As several of the North American gentlemen shared even with his disabilities he out worked everyone around him. He was going to build his mother a home she would be proud to call home. Matt shared how he felt “misplaced” working beside Anderson. His disabilities were not obvious according to his job performance. He would observe what others would be doing and he would fall in and get it done, whatever the task!!!! We all have many excuses why we cannot do something but once you have been around Anderson you wonder why you cannot do anything God puts in front of you. Because Anderson stepped up the bar for amazing work ethics. Also, the men were trying to keep up with Loree who worked hard for Jesus this past week. Put her and Anderson together sifting sand and you better keep up because they were getting the job done. This entire team blended beautifully within MDHM staff as they all became one family.
Of course this home got built as always. Hahns prayed over the first block, the cornerstone, like Jesus Christ is our Cornerstone. Hahns shared on the first day, “we are moving too fast and getting it done too quickly. Please slow down time God, let us enjoy the beauty of this culture and our friends YOU have put us here to work with.” I shared with Hahns it always goes by way too fast when you are serving our Lord and Savior.
Each evening the team brought to God moments special words about Anderson and his mother Pastora. How much they learned as each day unfolded. They came prepared to have open hearts and eyes to what God had in stored for them. They learned several awesome cultural things this week, “Banga” is not a person’s name but a command of come I need help. There was a pulperia right across the street from the project where people would go to the window and say “Banga” needing someone to come take their order be it a drink, cookies, or chocolate bananas. Chocolate bananas were another cultural treat they all learned about. Loree was especially excited; she got fruit and chocolate all in one after lunch one day. Aaron connected will with Anderson during the week and learned how nothing is impossible with God. God is always there to lead and guide us. Aaron saw brotherhood and of course sisterhood this week as the home was going up. This team brought unity to this week as they all worked hard together. Kevin led by example as he pushed through to the end daily. He saw and it got done. Kevin got sandwiched between Onil and another workhorse named Alex but Kevin hung right in there with them as poor old Aaron was pushing blocks and mud to them as quickly as he could. Matt and Hahns along with Loree worked with Melvin and Pastora’s brother keeping that mescal coming and still had plenty of time for some great fellowship with their Honduran friends. This was a well-blended week for all. Another cultural gift was the team was taught how to make Honduran coffee because they shared how delicious their cup of coffee was at the end of each day. Aaron was excited to learn this new skill to take back home with him. They also got blessed with a bowl of garrbo soup, thanks to Nicolas who killed the garrobo with a rock.
As the week was going by way too fast and it was time to dedicate the home, Hahns approached and said thank you for sharing their beautiful culture with the team this week. The delicious meals daily and the fellowship which went along with it. Hahns read out of Joshua 24:14 “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” Aaron stepped up to present the Bible with words of encouragement to read the Word daily and to grow continuously as a Christian family, even in the hard times. Matt stepped up to present the key with scripture read out of Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We all gathered around the home as Kevin closed out our time with a prayer over the home and how God will carry us through in our daily lives as this home will be a beacon, a light, for all who come and go. Afterwards, Loree shared with Pastora how well she had done in raising her children to be kind and have servant hearts. She should be so proud of all of them as they worked so hard together this past week. Pastora with tears said “Gracias”
This servant team worked on the ministry campus on their last day helping Mike and staff with putting concrete in the garage. They loaded the back hoe with rocks to take out on the main road to fill in all the holes from so much rain. They even got to make Nahun happy with a few games of co****le after lunch. Anyone reading this knows who the champion was but we all had fun and laughed as he kept beating us. Worship service Friday as always was very special as Pastor Saul invited Pastor Reniz to preach. He is our neighboring pastor in Pavana. This was a wonderful service. Pastor Reniz preached from Acts 10:1-6 and Romans 10:9-11. Hahns got to see the family whom he helped build a home for back in July. They have been coming faithfully since July to the Friday night worship services. And they are continuing to have monthly worship services in their front yard. This is our sister church in Fray Lazaro.
Thank you all for coming to serve beside Monte de Horeb Ministries. Thank you for the joy, the love, the servant hearts, and the willing spirits that filled this campus this past week. God bless you all!!!!! God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
