Our hearts are devastated at what is happening in Texas, particularly Camp Mystic and Heart O’ Hills (their camp was thankfully on break so no campers were present. However, staff and the director were on site and their director lost her life helping staff escape.)
As a fellow Christian Summer camp, it’s terrifying to imagine parents sending their child away to a fun summer camp only to have the floodwaters sweep away not only cabins, but precious children and counselors. It’s times like these where hard questions arise. Why would God allow this? Why didn’t He stop it?
Even through all the questions, emotions, and uncertainties, we can take comfort in one thing: the unshakeable truth that even in deep waters, He is still there.
We may not ever understand. We may pray and get the answer we DON’T want. It doesn’t mean He doesn’t love us or is punishing us. His plan is so much more than we could fathom.
He could have stopped the waters.
He could have stopped His Son from having to die on the cross.
He could have made a different way.
Sometimes He shows restraint even if it breaks his heart because His sovereignty is more than our human expectations. He is still good. His steadfast love endures forever.
He is with us In the Storm AND the healing, holding our hearts with his scarred hands.
With love and prayers for peace that surpasses all understanding,
