I always give to generous people. If you give to stingy, miserly people, you cut off the flow of blessing. I hear people say, "If God blesses me, I will give." That's not how it works. Give and God will bless you!

THE GLORY OF GOD

When many people think of the "GLORY OF GOD" they conjure up religious images of God in FIRE, SMOKE and MIST!!! Something magical, mysterious or metaphysical!
Whatever it is, only God could manifest it...right?
Actually...that's WRONG!

As believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to "walk in God's glory" so as to please Him in a worthy manner.
Notice 1 Thessalonians 2:2, "...so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and GLORY."

One translation of the word "GLORY" in the Bible is...WEIGHT!
We often describe a person trying to intimidate someone as...THROWING THEIR WEIGHT AROUND!
2 Corinthians 4:17 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal WEIGHT of GLORY."

When God manifests HIS GLORY...he shifts the WEIGHT of something off your shoulders, and onto himself.

Years ago, the great champion boxer, Muhammad Ali was getting ready to take off on a domestic flight. Before takeoff, the cabin stewardess noticed that Mr. Ali did not have his seatbelt on. She asked him to fasten his seatbelt and he responded, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The cabin attendant said, I know who you are, but it is an FAA regulation that you fasten your belt.
Muhammad Ali reiterated, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The Stewardess went to her supervisor. The supervisor also admonished the passenger that he must buckle up, to which he said to her also, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The supervisor then replied, "Yeah, well Superman don't need an airplane either! Now buckle up!"

Too often we try to play Superman and solve our own problems.
As if God needed OUR strength.
All the while, God is wanting to SHIFT some things into your favor. What He really needs from you is your WEAKNESS!!!
An admission that I cannot help myself, and that only God could get the GLORY for this.

Our help comes from the "OVERHEAD CABIN" where shifts may occur during the flight!!!!

I remember years ago being given as a gift a solid gold Cross Pen with my name engraved on it. My friend who gave it to me called it, "Jewelry That Writes!"
I loved that pen. But after awhile, I forgot about it. Then I misplaced it.
One day I tore the house apart looking for that pen. All I could think about was that pen.
Finally, after months of searching, I found it. And whenever I would be dressed up, I had that pen in my pocket.
You see, a pen that was LOST and FOUND again has more value then a pen that was never LOST!

That is why we have such VALUE to God. You see, we were LOST and FOUND again!

Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth.

Do you need proof? Look what God says about you.

"Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold … but with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18, 19)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1)

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands..." (Isaiah 49:16)

YOUR FISHING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BOAT!

Sometimes the greatest things in life are really close to happening for us. Peter and the disciples fished all night and caught NOTHING! In John 21:6, Jesus told the disciples to, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat...and you'll find some." So they did, and they were unable to haul it in because of the large number of fish."

Imagine how they felt when the sun rose and a whole night of fishing was fruitless. Not even a minnow! However, the greatest catch of their life was...right under their boat.

Thomas Edison once said, "Many of life's failures came from people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

You may feel like you have come to the end of your rope. Well tie a knot and HANG IN THERE, help is on the way! It could be RIGHT UNDER YOUR BOAT!

In Mark 14 a women poured expensive ointment on the head of Jesus. Jesus told the onlookers that this women should be honored as long as the gospel is preached.
There was someone "ENVIOUS" in attendance. The very next verse, Mark 14:10 says, "Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them."
BETRAYAL always comes:
(1) From friends...
(2) After ENVY is present...

Matt. 27:18 tells us why Jesus was arrested, "...it was out of envy that they had delivered him up."

Michael Card wrote a powerful song titled, WHY:
Why did it have to be a friend
Who chose to betray the Lord
Why did he use a kiss to show them
That's not what a kiss is for
Only a friend can betray a friend
A stranger has nothing to gain
And only a friend comes close enough
To ever cause so much pain

Don't betray your friends, and keep a sharp eye open for the GREEN EYE OF ENVY!

T. D. - A HORRIBLE DISEASE

It takes us two years to learn to talk, the rest of our lives to learn to shut up.

Have you ever said something, then immediately wished you would not have?

There are many things we should study in the Bible, but we are told specifically to study this: STUDY TO BE QUIET!

1 Thessalonians 4:11 says, “...study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands...”

Someone once said, “Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble.”

Psalm 37:37 says, “Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace and quiet.”
James 3:2 says, “If anyone can control his tongue, it proves that he has perfect control over himself in every other way.”

God has given us TWO ears...
God has given us ONE mouth...
He kinda figured you should use one of them twice as much, and one half as much.

James 1:19 says, “...beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to get angry.”

I find most people have this one backwards.
They are:
1. SWIFT TO SPEAK!
2. SLOW TO HEAR!
3. QUICK TO GET ANGRY!

I remember years ago praying for a group of sick people. Everyone was healed of their disease! In fact, I had each person to lay hands on themselves.
The whole audience had T.D.
Or the medical term...Tongue Disease.
Proverbs 30:32 says, “If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand UPON THY MOUTH.”
It then goes on to tell what you will do if you don’t put your hand over your mouth.

I told the audience, “keep your hand over your mouth and you will stay healed!”

Every follower of Jesus Christ must do two things continually.
(1) Change
(2) Grow
Job 14:14, "...I will wait Until my change comes."
2 Peter 3:18, "...you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

In this Changing/Growing: We experience three conversions.
1) CONVERTED - Out of the world into Christ.
2) CONVERTED - Out of ourselves into the Body of Christ (Church).
3) CONVERTED - With the help of the Church, back into the world for Christian service.

Our journey begins with knowing Christ as Savior. Being delivered from a selfish life to a devoted one.

We then MUST make our way into the Church. This is where we grow and fellowship. Today there is a growing movement especially among the young that believe church is unnecessary.
Hebrews 10:25 tells us, "...not to stay away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do..."

We must be careful however, that we don't fall prey to the "CLUB" mentality and simply become a click in the church. We were made to SERVE! Going back into that same world that offered us no hope and sharing the good news.

So let me ask you...are you CHANGING!
Are you GROWING?

CIRCLE OF TRUST?
Do You remember the little meeting in the dressing room between Robert De Niro (Jack Burns) and Ben Stiller (Gay Focker) in the movie Meet The Parents?
It was in that scene that De Niro asked Stiller if he wanted to be in the "Circle" of Trust?

It's funny, but TRUST usually does not come in CIRCLES!!!! Clicks come in circles!!!!

When I think of the CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST, a circle or click does not come to my mind.
The CHURCH is a living functioning BODY of Believers where everyone has value, not a select few.
Ephesians 4:16 says, "...the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth..."
Notice the language...EVERY JOINT (ligament) SUPPLIES...

I think the greatest hurt I've experienced in Church Life is NOT being included.
And probably the most hurt I've inflicted on others is NOT including them.

I think there are THREE ARCHITECTURAL designs of CHURCHES today.

1. The TRIANGLE Church - This church is known by either three big shots who control everything or one big shot who controls everything from 3 different positions.
PROBLEM: Once again no inclusion of others.
2. The CIRCLE Church - This church is known by a select few who are in the circle. It's cronyism at its worst!!!!
The circle church, you are either in the circle, or you are out of the circle!!!! You cannot be both!!!!
PROBLEM: Once again no inclusion of others.
3. The VINE Church - This church is known by its interdependence on the talents of everyone. Insecure Pastors cannot lead this flock.
It is this church that Jesus came to institute, and it is this church that will change the world!!!
PROBLEM: You will never have enough parking!!!!

HISTORY MAKERS

I’ve been reading the story of Joseph in my devotions. I love that story.
Two verses stood out to me concerning Joseph being sold into slavery. Both of these verses describe that event.

Genesis 37:28, “...his brothers sold him...
Psalms 105:17, “...God sent him...

Can you imagine what Joseph must have thought down in that pit his brothers THREW HIM OUT into? And then, to be SOLD OUT by people he thought would love him.
A. THROWN OUT
B. SOLD OUT

History has a way however, of redefining the events in our life.
Little did Joseph know that this horrible event would save his entire family during seven years of horrible famine. In fact, Joseph and his family prospered during the time of lack!!!!

What are you facing today? Know this, it has not caught God by surprise!

Be encouraged...HIS-Story is being written in your life today!

Idolatry

Romans 1:22-23 says,
“22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Notice the degenerative direction of idols found in vs. 23.
• Corruptible Man
• Birds
• Animals
• Creeping Things

The farther one gets from God, the more hideous their idols become.
Today, we have many idols in our culture.
People worship many things like:
• Cars
• Athletes
• Celebrities
• Money
• Materialism
• Themselves
And many other things.

Idolatry is the worship of idols or the giving of ultimate devotion, love, trust, or importance to something other than God.

Having preached the Gospel in over 50 countries, I have witnessed many idols that people worship.
The country of India has over 150,000 major gods, and millions of minor ones.
When entering a country, I always ask God, “What is the ruling idol in this country?”
I’ve always known that one of the ruling idols in the United States was materialism. However, in the year 2008 I felt the Lord was speaking to me. He said, “Americas Idol has changed.” It has gone from wealth & materialism, to the worship of GOVERNMENT. A subtle belief, that the GOVERNMENT was our provider, defender and savior.
Today, families, friends and colleagues have been separated by IDOLATRY.
While I pray for our government and leaders everyday, they are NOT GOD!
One of the ways you can tell when an idol has taken control of one’s life is when that’s all they talk about. And whether you are on the right or the left, if all you talk about is politics, I can safely say, that idolatry has taken rule of your life.

1 Corinthians 10:14 says, “… flee from idolatry"
It’s time to RUN, and I mean RUN from those things we think are so important, yet cannot really help you very much.

Today I declare that Jesus Christ is my Lord, my Savior and my ONLY redeemer!
