RESERVED SEATING

Have you ever tried to dine at a fine restaurant without reservations? Good luck with that one!

Reserving a SEAT is important.
If you go to the theater...reserved SEATS are required!
If you go to a sporting event...reserved SEATS are required!

Did you know that God makes reservations also? He reserves SEATS!

In Matthew 28, after the crucifixion of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus went to the tomb.
Notice vs 3, “There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and SAT ON IT.”

Notice the angel SAT ON the stone.
The Romans feared that someone would steal the body of Jesus and claim he rose from the dead. They even put a seal over the stone.
Not only did the angel break the seal, roll the stone away...but he SAT ON IT so no one could move it back!

When I was a teenager I had a sweet Camaro sports car. It was parked downtown as I had an appointment. The police told me that two boys ran into the station confessing they tried to steal my car. In fact they scratched it up a bit. The cop said the boys were frightened by two ten foot warriors with swords appearing on top of the car. They said the two warriors were just sitting there!! They were frightened out of their minds.

Everywhere I go, two angels follow me. I’ve named them, Goodness & Mercy, and they follow me all the days of my life.

What do you need God to sit on for you?
A new job, a health breakthrough? Do you need God to sit on one of your kids?

One of my all time favorite books is by Eugene Peterson, titled,
"A Long Obedience in the Same Direction."

I love what the title represents, a consistent effort to improve over years and years.
That may be the one thing that people most admire about their leaders. It does not really matter how long it has been since you saw them...yet they never change, and the issues of character still reside deep within them.
I love what Jesus said in John 8:29, "The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I ALWAYS DO what pleases him."

If you have really messed up lately, well today is a good day to begin A LONG OBEDIENCE IN THE SAME DIRECTION.

REDEFINITION

Genesis 2:17, “but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

I chuckle when I hear people say that Adam and Eve ate an APPLE in the Garden of Eden.
No where in the Bible does it say this. There were no APPLES eaten. There were no PEARS, STRAWBERRIES, MANGOS or GRAPEFRUITS eaten either.

You may ask, “What did they eat?”
Well, the Bible tells us exactly what they ate.
While it was a “FRUIT” it was not the kind of “FRUIT” that most people think.
Genesis 2:17 tells us the fruit was from the TREE OF GOOD AND EVIL.
It was not a physical fruit, but a spiritual one.

And I think herein lies the root of most of our problems today. People want to REDEFINE what is GOOD and what is EVIL.
While we don’t always call it an APPLE, we do have other names for it.
EXAMPLE:
1. We call EVIL good.
2. We call GOOD evil.
3. We call SIN...
** A mistake
** A problem
** An alternative lifestyle
** A disease
** A white lie
I often here people say they just stretched the truth a little. You would think if you stretched the truth, you would actually have more truth. But really, it just means you are lying.

Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

Years I go I went into a men’s clothing shop and looked at some very slick shoes.
I told the salesman that I really liked the shoes.
He said to me, “Yea, they BAD!!!!
I said, “No I really like them!”
He said again to me, “Yea, they BAD!!!!
I said, “They are GOOD!”
He said, “BAD!”
Then I realized, to him, BAD was GOOD!!!

I made a decision years ago to measure my standards by God’s Word, and not by the opinions of man.
There is a question phrase used by Jesus numerous times in the Bible. It’s says, “...have you never read...?”
While this is a rhetorical question, it is also a sad commentary on our day. You see, the answer to that question for most Christians is...NO!
If you do not read the Bible, and make it the final authority in your life, then you will have no problems calling GOOD and EVIL...apples...or something else. L

I always give to generous people. If you give to stingy, miserly people, you cut off the flow of blessing. I hear people say, "If God blesses me, I will give." That's not how it works. Give and God will bless you!

THE GLORY OF GOD

When many people think of the "GLORY OF GOD" they conjure up religious images of God in FIRE, SMOKE and MIST!!! Something magical, mysterious or metaphysical!
Whatever it is, only God could manifest it...right?
Actually...that's WRONG!

As believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to "walk in God's glory" so as to please Him in a worthy manner.
Notice 1 Thessalonians 2:2, "...so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and GLORY."

One translation of the word "GLORY" in the Bible is...WEIGHT!
We often describe a person trying to intimidate someone as...THROWING THEIR WEIGHT AROUND!
2 Corinthians 4:17 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal WEIGHT of GLORY."

When God manifests HIS GLORY...he shifts the WEIGHT of something off your shoulders, and onto himself.

Years ago, the great champion boxer, Muhammad Ali was getting ready to take off on a domestic flight. Before takeoff, the cabin stewardess noticed that Mr. Ali did not have his seatbelt on. She asked him to fasten his seatbelt and he responded, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The cabin attendant said, I know who you are, but it is an FAA regulation that you fasten your belt.
Muhammad Ali reiterated, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The Stewardess went to her supervisor. The supervisor also admonished the passenger that he must buckle up, to which he said to her also, "My name is Muhammad Ali and I am Superman, and Superman don't need no seatbelt!"
The supervisor then replied, "Yeah, well Superman don't need an airplane either! Now buckle up!"

Too often we try to play Superman and solve our own problems.
As if God needed OUR strength.
All the while, God is wanting to SHIFT some things into your favor. What He really needs from you is your WEAKNESS!!!
An admission that I cannot help myself, and that only God could get the GLORY for this.

Our help comes from the "OVERHEAD CABIN" where shifts may occur during the flight!!!!
