In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul writes about “a thorn in his flesh” that he asks God to remove. God’s response was simply, “My grace is sufficient for you, my strength is made perfect in weakness” (verse 9). God heard Paul’s plea, but He didn’t answer the way Paul wanted. Instead, God promised that His grace will be enough.

The word grace used in this verse comes from the Greek word “chairo”, and it means “divine influence on the heart”.

When God spoke that His grace was sufficient, He meant it. He was saying that His grace has the power to change our hearts and helps us to trust Him, to look beyond our current situation and see that He has a plan in all of this. Whatever Paul needed, God’s grace would meet him.

God didn’t change Paul’s circumstance, he changed Paul.

Sometimes we are like Paul, asking God to do something, or take something hard from us that we feel like we can’t go through anymore.

Maybe instead of asking for God to change things, we ask God to change us.

Maybe the point of going through hard times is for God to “divinely influence” our hearts so He can posture us to say yes to something we would have said no to before.

Change is hard, discouraging, and even lonely, but it is what God uses to prepare us for what He wants to do in us, through us, and for us.

When you let the God who never changes, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, change you for what’s coming next, you will see His grace be sufficient for you.

So today, don’t be worried about changes, whether if they’re happening or not happening. Change may look scary, but it is necessary because it’s where we learn to depend on Him.

It’s where we learn that when we are weak, He is strong.
It’s where we learn that his faithfulness will be there.
It’s where we learn that His goodness will be there.
It’s where we learn that His strength will be there.
It’s where we learn that His peace will be there.
It’s where we learn that His grace will be there.

And we have a promise that His grace will be enough to carry us through anything we are facing!

Sis, read that again! My heart is heavy for those going through a hard time right now. Life just isn’t fair sometimes. Sometimes life throws its worst at you and you want to throw in the towel and quit as you struggle to find how anything good could come of what you’re facing.

If you look for God and not just the good in the highs and lows, and the little moments in between, you’ll find His goodness, his faithfulness, His peace, and his grace.

Whatever you’re facing, if you can’t find the good in it, look for the God of your situation!

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭121‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭

Have you ever thought “this isn’t fair” about anything that went wrong in your life? Sometimes life can throw curve balls at you and things don’t go the way you expected them to. Situations can leave you feeling like life just isn’t fair. But God never promised us a perfect, painless life. In fact, he told us that “in the world you will have trouble”. However, He did leave us with a promise that He would never leave us, nor forsake us. With that promise comes a comfort in knowing that His faithfulness is greater than your failures. When your burdens are great, remind yourself that His faithfulness is greater!

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Job 14:7 says that “there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease. Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant.”

Many of us believe that before we can heal others, we must first heal ourselves. Yet every person in the Bible has a resounding story: God wants to use those who feel unqualified, unprepared, unwanted, and broken as vessels to minister to others.

Just as the Bible talks about being instant in season and out of season, there is no “out of season” in the kingdom of God. God recycles every trial and pain to bring us growth and gain.

What are you facing that seems too broken to fix? With God, we can bloom in our brokenness.

He sustains us through seasons of brokenness and discouragement so that we can still bear fruit and help others.

Even in your lowest and darkest times, God will use it to change you so you can change others. We can be the scent of water to others that Job talks about while we wait for our healing to happen.

Because His mercies are new every morning to sustain us, we can bloom in every season of life. We can also help our sisters bloom in whatever season they are facing. An encouraging word, a prayer, a text, a kind gesture, may be just the thing they need to make it through another day.

As Job said, “There is hope”.

If there is hope for a tree, there is hope for you and whatever you are facing! There is promise on the other side of your brokenness!

As Christians, we are called to “speak the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15). Just as you cannot have truth without love, you also cannot have love without truth.

Truth without love is critical, judgmental, self-righteous, and condemning.

Likewise, love without truth is tolerant, complacent, self-justifying, and lacks the transformative power of the Gospel.

However, when we couple love with the truth of God’s Word, hearts and lives will forever be changed. Lies that we once believed about ourselves will be broken. We will speak identity and value over a generation that is hurting and confused.

Jesus said that “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). True freedom doesn’t come from expressing yourself or validating sin. According to the Bible, God’s truth brings freedom.

Even while we were yet sinners, Jesus loved us so greatly that He didn’t leave us in our sins. It was His love for His children that led us into truth. How much more should we lead others into knowing truth?

We are not only commanded to love one another, but we’ve also been commissioned to speak truth. Don’t fall into the trap that love is tolerant. Love speaks the truth regardless of what culture says. Love points people to the cross, not to confusion. Love needs truth just as much as truth needs love!

Let’s make the determination to balance love and truth in order to see the power of the Gospel at work in our lives and those around us!

Psalms 126:5 says “Those who sow in tears will reap with joy”. When you think about the sowing process, such as a farmer or gardener planting a harvest, no one ever sees their sacrifice. No one knows the work it takes to prepare, cultivate, and produce fruit except the worker.

Much like the farmer, we go through seasons of sowing and building, wondering if our efforts will produce anything. We plant, we water, but nothing happens from our vantage point. However, if we were to look under the dirt, we would see new life sprouting and growing. We would see seeds transforming into roots that will one day bear fruit. We would see God working behind the scenes long before we begin reaping.

Preparation requires sacrifice. Even if no one else understands what you’re doing, be willing to carry and cultivate it alone for a while until God brings it to pass. Trust His process and His timing, because “He does all things well” (Mark 7:37).

Though it may not look like anything is happening, don’t let that fool you into thinking that God isn’t working, or you’ve done something wrong.

Whether you’re sowing tears with hurt, brokenness, pain, grief, or disappointment, you are preparing a space for God to move. You may sow thinking you don’t have much to sow, but sow whatever is in your hand, and remind yourself of the promise that one day you will reap in joy!

When we talk to God, are we shutting out all the voices of distractions in our day-to-day lives and letting Him speak to us? Instead of listening to the accuser of the bretheren who constantly reminds us of our failures, listen to God’s voice speak life and purpose into whatever we are facing!
