Monday's Motivational Musing

Read: Romans 9

Romans 9-11 are some of the most difficult and challenging chapters in the Bible. Yet, we shall not shy away from them. We cannot choose to not read or try to understand just because it is hard.
But for the sake of not getting into deeper subjects and discussions which is not what this Monday post is meant to be, we will do more of an overview, a general idea for our daily living. What does it mean for me today? That is the question.

Chapter 9 is about God's sovereignty. It is about God choosing Jacob over Esau, the younger over the older for the promised blessing. Yet there is one aspect of this chapter that is often overlooked. Your racial, national, and social heritage will not save you from hell. It doesn't matter if you are full blooded Jew, the child of a prominent preacher, or belong to a certain place in society. God has determined who He will save and how. It is not by man's righteousness, not by man's heritage, not by man's work or appeal at all. it is only by the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ.
God will show mercy to whom he chooses. He will save to whom he wills. He will redeem to whom he determines. It is all as God has said, done, and fulfilled. It is by his grace. It is by his mercy. It is by faith in what God has said and done.

The offer of salvation is available to all who choose as God has dictated. You cannot set the terms. You cannot offer your part or suggestions. You must be saved by God's terms, on God's steps, by faith in Christ. "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."

Monday’s Motivational Musings

Read: Romans 8: 34-39

The power of truth is knowing its facts. Truth sets us free. Even more so, truth gives us perspective on reality. As Paul picks here in this chapter 8 with two more rhetorical questions about what we have in Christ Jesus that the world cannot compete, compare, or take away.

“Who is the one who condemns?” We all love to condemn others. Pointing fingers and judging others is common in our world. Christians are not only guilty of condemning one another inside the church, but usually are the target of condemnation from those outside the church. But remember verse one of this chapter, says, “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Why? For Christ has died for us, taking our sin and shame on our behalf and even better, he has also been raised from the dead to bring everlasting victory over sin and the grave. We are eternally set free and declared righteous because of what Christ did at the cross for us. Even more so, he lives to make intercession on our behalf. He is our advocate before the Father when we are being condemned by Satan, or throwing our own selves under the bus, Jesus steps in and declares us accepted, righteous, and forgiven.

“Who can separate us from the love of Christ?” Is there anything in this world or even in this universe that can keep us from the love of Christ? Paul adds another follow up to this, of any affliction, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword? These are all things that man attempts to do to discourage and keep us from trusting in Christ. Psalm 44:22 is provided to show the reality of following Christ and the resistance in the world.
Then 10 other options that we face in this life that can also tempt us to think God does not love us. But the truth is, there is nothing, absolutely nothing that can keep us from God’s love being poured out to us through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

For this reason, we are more than conquerors. A king or military conqueror will only rule and win for a short time. They will only rule over a people for a short time. Temporary conquests that the world celebrates are nothing in comparison to us who are loved by Christ. We are sharers in the victory. We are sharers in the spoil. We are sharers in the rule of the future. We are more than conquerors, we are eternal victors, forever winners, all because we are loved by our good and great God who gave us salvation in Christ Jesus, to free us from condemnation, to forgive us of our sin, to place inside of us the Holy Spirit, and to provide a secured future forevermore.
“You may run out of a lot of things in life, but you will never run out of God’s love.”

Monday's Motivational Musing

Read: Romans 8: 31-33

This special chapter from Paul is some of the most powerful and encouraging truths you can read. It is the clear reminder of God's great presence and work for us. Paul uses rhetorical questions to emphasize the clear work of God and His faithfulness.

"What then shall we say to these things?" What things is this referring to? The truth about the work of the Spirit, the work of God's sovereignty for our salvation, the promise of God for the future. All these things are proof that God is for us and. If you have God for you, then there is nothing that can stand up against us. If God is on our side, we cannot be defeated. God has been too good, too wonderful, for us to complain or even have a defeated attitude. We can live with confidence because no matter what this world offers to counter, with God we have victory and everything we need.
How did God show you how much He cares? He did not spare his own son, but delivered him up for us all. If God gave us Jesus, not holding him back, how much more will He give to us his own children!

"Who shall bring a charge against God's elect?" Remember, the first verse of the chapter said, "There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." If God is only judge that matters, if in the end, the only One who matters to charge you as guilty or forgiven, is God. He will have the final say. So, if we have been born again in Christ, forgiven of our sin, had that sin removed as far as the east is from the west, then shall not fear what trumped up charges and accusations the world shall throw at us.
The early Christians were notoriously being blamed, wrongly, falsely for many things. Yet, the encouragement is, no matter what they say, it only matters what God says. If God has justified and deemed you righteous through the blood of Christ, then you are free, pronounced guilty but pardoned, and promised all the blessings both now and in the future in Christ.

Again, remember, today, if the great Creator God of the universe, cared enough to send Jesus to die for your sin, then what have you to fear? Then what have you to question if God loves you? then what have you fear the accusations and judgments of man? If God be for us, then who can be against us!!!

Monday's Motivational Musing

Read: Romans 8: 28-30

There is great comfort in trusting your life to a Sovereign God. Joseph in the Old Testament definitely leaned on this throughout his life. He was thrown into a pit, sold to Egypt, falsely accused and then imprisoned. How could all these unfortunate and trying circumstances be good? How could all these events end up being good?
Joseph himself tells his brothers that "what you meant for evil, God meant for good." That is the same truth that Romans 8:28 provides. "We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

Life is unfair. Accidents and unfortunate events do happen. You cannot plan out life and all its details. What you can know is that God is in control and that all things, both good and bad, both hardship and suffering, both highs and lows work together for good. As if you needed a reminder today, when you can't see through the storm clouds and rain, God has put forth and executed a plan to redeem you and make you like Jesus.

Verses 29 and 30 reveal the purpose of God, that all the things in life, allowed by God to occur in his sovereignty, for our salvation. He has foreknew, predestined, called, to which he had to justify and then will glorify. Notice it is all what God does. He has done this. So if God has done all this for His purpose, don't you think you can trust in Him to work out all the events and circumstances in your life for His good?

Trust your life, your salvation, your future, and your present to the God who is in control of all things and will never relinquish that control forever!
