For you to teach children this week
When you woke up this morning, the sun was shining. You did nothing to make it shine, and you cannot keep it from shining. The same is true for the intact atmosphere, the air you breath, the elliptical rotation of the earth, gravity and many other constants that God maintains for his world and universe. We are also blessed to live under a government that maintains law and order and even seeks to abide by those voted into office through popular or electoral college votes. We do not always give what is owed to God and the government because of our idolatrous sinful hearts. Setting ourselves on the throne of our hearts or idolizing the government sins against God bringing dishonor to God and the government, and harmful chaos to the world and judgment upon us. Jesus honored God and the government giving them both what he owed them to save us by giving his life for sin on the cross as was the Father’s will and allowed by Pontius Pilate at the demands of the Jewish leadership. Through Jesus we have been saved, and he sits on the throne of heaven for our good, provides government for this world and sits enthroned in our hearts for our eternal and temporal good.
