Tomorrow is the last day of our annual novena in preparation for the Nativity of Our Blessed Mother. We pray the Memorare in front of this miraculous image everyday of the novena. Today our Mass was offered for the intentions of the novena that is made for all those involved with Catholic Schools. It used to be that the schools would begin the day after Labor Day, but now many have already started.

Today our Mass was offered for the intentions of our Little Sisters of the Poor as they celebrate the Feast Day of their Foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan. We miss their presence in our Diocese of Richmond and pray they receive enough new vocations to return.

We are praying for our RVA seminarians who have recently returned to their studies. It was a joy to see Neal McCaffrey again this summer and also Jonathan Kenney who came on the Feast Day our foundress,St. Jane de Chantal, to deliver an icon of the Visitation from our good friend Fr. Michael Roach, a professor at Mt. St. Mary's Seminary.

Yesterday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother into heaven. Unfortunately, minutes before Mass began one of the phases of the power went out so we had no organ or microphone but at least some lights! Fortunately , Fr. Paul Kkonde has a naturally a loud clear voice so he was fine without the microphone and helped with the singing. We are hoping the organ will be able to be repaired soon from the damage that was done to it by the outage.

On Wednesday August 12th we will be celebrating the Solemnity of Our Foundress, St. Jane Frances de Chantal. Our Sr. Jane Frances is standing beneath the statue of her patroness. We are united in prayer with all who are celebrating this day in a special way. May our Holy Mother intercede for us that we may grow in our prayer for as she says, "in prayer more is accomplished by listening than by talking."

On July 31st we were happy to celebrate the 91st Birthday of our good friend, Cathy Cuccia, who made it on time for our 7:30AM Mass which was offered for her intentions. The next day we had the joy of having both Frs. Paul Kkonde and John Mary OSB con-celebrate Mass here with Br. Ambrose OSB. We will greatly miss them but are looking forward to seeing them again when they return for events at the school.

Normally on July 26th we celebrate the feast day of the parents of Mary, Sts. Joachim and Anne. As we reflect on the Gospel today about the pearl of great price, we think about our Blessed Mother's example of leaving all that was dear to her, especially her parents at a very young age, according to tradition, in order to dedicate her life more fully to God. The Sisters of the Visitation following her example renew their vows each year on November 21st, which is the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lady in the Temple.

Fr. Boniface Ramsey, of New York City (though his father was from Middleburg, VA) stopped here for a few days while on vacation. He knows our Sisters from Brooklyn very well. Father is the editor of the complete English translation of the works of St. Augustine. He has been giving us some conferences about our "grandfather" St. Augustine which we have greatly appreciated.

We are looking forward to the celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel on July 16th. We thank God for the intercession of Our Blessed Mother especially at the hour of our death through the gift of the brown scapular. It is also the 44th Profession Anniversary of our dear Sr. Mary Joseph. Please keep her in your prayers.

Our dear Sr. Frances Marie Lawlor, our oldest Sister, celebrated her 70th Anniversary of Profession on July 3rd. We started the celebrating on July 2 (the former Feast of the Visitation). Fr. Neal Nichols FSSP was here that day to celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving for his Silver Jubilee of Ordination. We were happy to see members of St. Joseph's, the parish he attended before becoming a priest. A generous benefactor supplied us with flowers for the 4th of July celebration. There are 10 small flags under the Altar, one for each Sister. May there be more next year!
