The Faith community began in 1963, in the basement of a home on the Old Farm development that surrounds our current church. The pastor at that time rode his bicycle around the community introducing himself at every home. In 1964, the church was officially chartered and name
d Faith United Methodist Church of Rockville, MD and we broke ground on our existing sanctuary. Planted in a time when churches were the central gathering place for community, Faith UMC has enjoyed strong membership for nearly 60 years. Our church-based activities have included a preschool, many international and regional trips, a robust music program, and various outreach partnerships for underserved communities. Since 2019 we have deepened our identity as a social justice-oriented community. Faith UMC intentionally keeps our designation to the United Methodist Church to be a contemplation and action-oriented community. We are committed to being a safe haven for our LGBTQ+ siblings in Christ and to embracing diversity as a cornerstone of our faith. Our church proudly holds the Lighthouse Congregation and Reconciling Ministries Network affiliation to affirm the dignity and worth of every person. We engage in critical and thoughtful exploration of the scriptures and the traditions of Christianity, understanding that faith evolves throughout our lifetime. At Faith UMC, we embrace a spirit of inquiry and recognize the importance of grappling with complex theological and ethical questions. As we navigate the challenges of the modern world, we seek to harmonize ancient wisdom with contemporary insights, always guided by a desire to promote justice, equality, and love. Faith UMC remains a thriving Christian home with a strong traditional church music program. We practice prayer, worship, hospitality, fellowship, study, and service as we become more like Christ. We are a place for people to belong in community, become followers of Jesus Christ, believe the good news of the gospel, and as a result, we are called to be love in the world.
