What do you do with what God tells you?

Do you question it? Do you wonder, “Did I really hear that?” or convince yourself, “There’s no way God said that,” because what He is asking feels uncomfortable, unexpected, or bigger than you?

Sometimes the challenge is not hearing God. Sometimes the challenge is trusting Him enough to respond.

Scripture is full of people who questioned what God told them. Moses had excuses. Gideon needed reassurance. Jonah ran. Yet God was still calling them to obedience.

Maybe there is another question we need to ask ourselves: Can God trust me with what He tells me? Will I obey when it is inconvenient, uncomfortable, or requires something of me?

Hearing His voice matters, but what we do with what He says matters too.

Are you listening to the voice of God?

God is still speaking, but sometimes our lives are so full of noise, responsibilities, opinions, and distractions that we never get quiet enough to recognize His voice. We pray for direction, clarity, wisdom, and answers, but listening is part of prayer too.

Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27. Recognizing His voice takes time in His presence, time in His Word, and a heart willing to follow even when His direction is not what we expected.

Maybe the question today is not whether God is speaking, but whether we recognize His voice when He does.

Gossip doesn’t only require someone willing to speak. It requires someone willing to listen.

Before accepting what you hear about someone, ask yourself: Do I know this is true? Do I know the whole story? Am I forming an opinion about someone based solely on another person’s words?

Scripture says, “A gossip’s words are like choice food that goes down to one’s innermost being.” Proverbs 18:8. What we listen to has the power to shape what we believe about others.

We’re responsible for what leaves our mouths, but we’re also responsible for what we willingly entertain with our ears. Listening to gossip isn’t innocent participation.

“Without wood, fire goes out.” Proverbs 26:20.

Guard your mouth. Guard your ears. Don’t fuel the fire.

Not everything you know is yours to tell.

Sometimes gossip is obvious. Other times, we give it more respectable names: concern, venting, “just between us,” or even a prayer request.

But someone else’s struggle, mistake, pain, or private moment isn’t ours to turn into conversation.

Before sharing something about someone who isn’t in the room, ask yourself:

Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Is it kind?
And maybe most importantly, is it mine to tell?

Sometimes loving people well means protecting their story when they’re not there to protect it themselves.

If you’re looking for a perfect church filled with perfect people, you won’t find one.

And while we may say, “I’m not looking for perfect,” sometimes we still expect people to act, believe, and grow exactly the way WE think they should.

The truth is, church (as a whole) is full of imperfect people. Broken people. Hurting people. People who are healing, learning, growing, and still walking out their faith.

Everyone has a story, and you may never know what the person sitting beside you is carrying.

So come as you are. Give grace. Make room. Because church is imperfect people making their way to a perfect Savior.
