We are a fortunate bunch, a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, we work hard and are proud that we can provide for our families and our kids. Look outside yourselves for a second. Most of us, even if we are, are only 1 or 2 generations removed from the cotton fields, rock quarries and mill work that built this town. Our families struggled and fought to provide for us, to make a better life. Those of us that are fortunate, it is time to remember where you came from and that everyone needs a hand now and again, not a single one of us made it completely on our own.
Currently there are families in Rockmart who aren't that fortunate. There are kids who might not get to experience that magical experience of Christmas morning, of that belief in something innocent and pure. They may never get to understand that there is inherent good in the world.
We want to help make sure that every kid in our community starts life knowing that there is goodness in the world.
Santa Claus, Kris Kringle or Father Christmas, you choose the name, he lives within all of us.
We challenge you this year. We know you are proud to be able to provide every single thing on your children’s wishlist. It is an amazing feeling as a parent, almost the final checklist of a nearly completed year.
However, while you are shopping, whether in-store (hopefully in some of our local merchants) or On-line, what if you took only 10% of each purchase and used it to buy some toys for kids who might not get to experience the magic of Christmas morning without you?
Will your kid’s miss that 10%? My guess is not. That will probably be that extra stuff they play with once for 3 and a half minutes Christmas morning and never touch again.
Here is our December Challenge to you, our athletes and our community, for every $90 you spend on your kids for Christmas, take $10 and buy a new unwrapped toy or two and drop it off at Silver Comet CrossFit. It’ll go in the front window. The night of the Christmas Parade, December 7th downtown, we will send it over to the elves at Christmas is For Kids, care of the Rockmart Police Department and they will make sure each and every toy will make it to their rightful and grateful owner.
Look at it as an investment in your community, look at it as a way to give back or just plain look at it as a way to help the next generation hold on to that bit of innocence just a tad longer. Every kid does deserve to experience the magic of Christmas.
Drop off any new unwrapped toys at Silver Comet CrossFit 120 South Marble Street (beside Smith and Lockwood) between 5:15 and 7am and between 4 and 7pm any weekday between now and Dec 9th.) let's fill the window and spread the magic this year!
