“…all that you ask for in prayer believe that you shall receive it and it shall be yours”. Mark 11:24

Lord, many of us want you to be like a vending machine-put in a dollar and always receive a soda. We also want you to desire for us what we want and when we want it-which is usually right now, today. Lord, you are way too wise and your love for us too great to grant immediately our every desire especially those that wouldn’t be good for us. I admit that I can pray for many things that aren’t what will benefit me or others. I can hear you say what you want for me is better, greater and more beautiful than what I ask for. Besides that, you see my real needs when often I am only aware of my “wants”. Lord, like you say, the bottom line is faith. It’s trusting that you love me and always know what is best. Your timing in answering prayers is always perfect. Lord, today I place all my wants, needs and even wishes in your generous and loving hands trusting you will sort it all out and will provide only the very best. Amen.

Give thanks to God, bless his name. Psalm 100:4

…you may announce the praises of him… 1 Peter 2:9

Lord, how wonderful you have made us! When I exercise or stress my body at work my heart beats faster and my lungs breathe deeper and more rapidly. Other systems work in harmony to support my body as needed. Just the same when trouble or fear comes upon me, you provide everything I need to endure. Your grace sustains me in temptation. Your word guides my decisions. Your love and mercy heal me as I need them. For all this, I am so very grateful, Lord. I praise you today for all your goodness to me. Like my heart and lungs respond to exercise, so your power and peace allow me to keep going in times of difficulty. What a great and awesome God you are. You give me just what I need at the moment without me even asking. And I’m often unaware of these gifts. My prayer today is one of praise for your greatness and gratitude for your goodness. Amen.

…love one another intensely from a pure heart. 1 Pt. 1:22

“…do for us whatever we ask of you.” Mk. 10:35

Lord, we ask in our prayers so much of you. I know you delight in listening to our petitions and giving us all that is good for us. I also know we can become very narrow-minded in what we ask for. Like the brothers Zebedee, I can become focused on what I want you to do for me. I can fail to see the big picture and what you know is best. Your word today urges me to love you and others out of a pure heart. A pure heart is not self-serving. A pure heart doesn’t ask what I can get out of being kind. A pure heart is not proud, arrogant, jealous or envious. A pure heart seeks to please you and not myself. This is hard, Lord, because loving like you ask me to doesn’t’ come naturally. Too often I look out for number one. Thank you for this lesson today on greatness being a result of service. Help me to serve and not to count the cost. May I follow the example of your mother Mary who gave herself completely with a pure heart. Amen

“Many who are first will be last and the last will be first”. Mk 10:31

Lord, you know the expression, “it’s all about me”. When I put myself first at the expense of others, I am not following you. You never put yourself first. Lord, you call us to always look to you for security and blessings. The goods and comforts of this world count as nothing in the next. Looking for security in anything other than you is useless although we do it all the time. Lord, you are pleased with us when even in small ways we look to surrender to you and to the needs of our brothers and sisters. Lord, today may I accept the opportunities you place before me to choose the good and ways of your kingdom. May I not hesitate to work and live for the good of others and reject the idea that it’s all about me. Whether first or last in your kingdom, may I rest with you in eternity. St. Philip pray for us. Amen

Prayer for Memorial Day 🇺🇸
God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

May 25, 2026, Monday of the 8th Week of Ordinary Time-B THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH-A

“I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers…Gen. 3:15

“… behold your mother.” John 19:27

Lord, Mary, the model of motherhood, was present at your incarnation and crucifixion. She held you tenderly in the stable of Bethlehem and before the tomb on Calvary. From start to finish she faithfully completed the will of the Father. As St. Jerome said: “Death through Eve, life through Mary.” She is the “new Eve” because her obedience to God’s will resolved Eve’s disobedience. At the foot of the cross, with one of your last pain filled breaths, you gave your mother to us as our mother for eternity. Giving her to us is a sign of hope that blessings on future generations have not been removed. Redemption is possible. Thank you, O Lord, for giving me a loving and caring mother for all time. She is someone I can go to when in trouble. I can ask her for help when I don’t want to go on anymore. She will listen to all my worries, fears, hopes and prayers. I entrust my children to her care as well.

“Mary, my mother, pray for us so that we can better follow your Son. I love you and believe you will never turn your back on us your children. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!” Amen

May 24, 2026, PENTECOST SUNDAY-A

…the Spirit is given for some benefit. 1 Cor 12:7

Lord, like you breathed life into Adam, you breathed the Holy Spirit of new life into your disciples and to us. The same Spirit which has continued the work you began in us. For whose benefit did you give the Spirit, yours or ours? Maybe both? You benefit because your Spirit gives life to your children-the abundant life you promised. You did not leave us orphans for your presence stays with us. You only want the very best for us. You are still close even when we don’t see you. We benefit because your Spirit provides all the strength to live, to work, to pray, to endure. We benefit because your Spirit brings us into the right relationship with you and all others who believe. No doubt, this gift is truly a difference maker in every corner of my life. I trust that whatever the Spirit inspires within me is for my benefit and for those around me. Thank you for giving the sign of your forgiveness and mercy to your disciples and to the priests of our parish in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth. Alleluia Amen

…he proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 28:31

“You, follow me.” John 21:22

Lord, your word today sums up what it means to be your disciple. I have chosen to follow you through all the times, places and circumstances of my life. How I do that changes as I experience your grace and are formed by your word. There are so many distractions, temptations and challenges on the road to eternity. You have a purpose for me and a mission for me. What’s important at this moment is to be open to whatever you call me to today. How can I best be your disciple this day? Who will I meet who needs an encouraging word? What do you want me to do for you today? How can I grow in faith and trust in you? Lord, I want to go wherever you lead me. I depend on you to perfect my words, prayers and love. Dear Jesus, I place it all in your hands. Thank you for choosing me to be a witness to you. Amen.

“…do you love me?” John 21:17

Lord, many years ago I made a huge mistake in a job. My carelessness could have had really bad consequences. I thought I would be fired. My boss showed restraint and understanding and gave me a second chance. Was I relieved! I’ll bet Peter was relieved too when you gave him a second chance following his three big denials of you. You could have fired him for his lack of commitment and loyalty. You saw his potential and let go of his past mistakes. You put your faith in him and entrusted him with shepherding your flock. I can’t thank you enough, Jesus, for all the second chances you have given me. By all rights my patterns of sinfulness deserve to be fired. Seems there’s no limit to your mercy, forgiveness and understanding. Yes, Lord, I do love you. Yes, Lord, I too will follow you. Peter must have had a huge burden lifted from his shoulders that day. Lord, help me to follow you as he did. Amen.

“Take courage…” Acts 23:11

“I pray for those who will believe in me through their word…” John 17:20

Lord, on the night before you gave up your life for us you prayed to your Father for all who would one day believe in you. You prayed for me. Your prayer called on God to ensure the story of your glory would be passed on to all future generations starting with your disciples. You also said that the Holy Spirit would guard and protect the truth of the Gospel forever. Just as a small spark can set an entire forest ablaze, your word has been handed on throughout history to the present day. I have received the Good News from the faithful who have come before me. Your prayer is still being answered today. My generation has the solemn duty to pass the Gospel on to those that will follow. Starting in my family and anyone with whom I can share the story of salvation. Lord, give me today the courage to pass on the joy of your good news to someone who really needs to hear it. Amen.
