HIAS Refugee Shabbat
This Friday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Adas Yoshuron will participate in HIAS’ Eighth Annual Refugee Shabbat this Friday to recognize the profound impact of the global Jewish movement working on behalf of refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced people. We will be joined at Shabbat services by guest speaker Martha Stein, Executive Director of Hope Acts, who will share some thoughts and answer questions about navigating these turbulent times.

All are welcome to join us for Shabbat services and a potluck dessert oneg. If you feel inspired, please bring a dessert reflective of your family's heritage and history to share.

Founded in 2012, Hope Acts is a Portland-based nonprofit that envisions a community where immigrants are welcomed and empowered socially, emotionally, physically, economically, and spiritually. Hope Acts offers asylum seekers access to housing and basic needs, assistance in navigating complex immigration processes, and resources for learning English to help them successfully transition to a new life in Maine.

This fall, Adas Yoshuron is keeping warm with heat pumps installed in partnership with Adamah. Climate Action program’s zero interest loan helped our synagogue get off oil, cut costs and carbon pollution for years to come.

We’ve got a full day of ritual tomorrow! Check out out Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah events below:
—————————————————————
🔹Shemini Atzeret Services and Yizkor
Tuesday, October 14 at 10 a.m.

Join us for the full festival morning services including Torah, Haftarah, Hallel, Yizkor, and Tefilat Geshem (the Prayer for Rain) as the harvest season ends and we welcome the needed water. Followed by a vegetarian potluck lunch.

🔹Simchat Torah Celebration with the AY Band
Tuesday, October 14 at 6 p.m. (Pizza at 5:30!)

Come circle the sanctuary to the soulful sounds of the Adas Yoshuron Band on this annual celebration of completing and beginning the Torah. Bring the kids for the dancing and a special aliyah! Don’t worry about dinner; we’ll have pizza to give you dancing energy! It's an especially wonderful time to join our joyful celebration!

🔹Got Teens? Join our Simchat Torah After Party!
Tuesday, October 14 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Are you a parent of a post bar/bat mitzvah teen? Here's a great chance for them to join other teens and Rabbi Lorin to explore the Torah as we complete the annual cycle of reading all five books.* We'll spend the first part of our time scrolling through the Torah in a “highlights reel,” followed by an ice cream sundae bar to celebrate the sweetness of Torah and study! Don't miss out on this wonderful time with teens from the community! FMI and to RSVP contact Rosa Ergas: president[at]adasyoshuron.org.

*On Simchat Torah we read the final portion of Deuteronomy and the first verses of Genesis; in some communities the Torah is unrolled on long tables and celebrated in its full glory!

Reverse Tashlich and Beach Clean-Up
Sunday, September 28; 10 a.m.-12 noon
Harbor Park, 271 Main Street, Rockland

We'll get together on Sunday to reverse the tradition of Tashlich and repair some of the human-made damage in a collaborative clean-up at Rockland’s Harbor Park. Come collect trash as we do our part to Repair the Sea. Be prepared: wear closed-toed shoes and bring a full water bottle. To learn more about Reverse Tashlich, the Jewish movement to Repair the Sea, and to register, click here, or just show up! This is a great way to bring the whole family out to make a difference in our local environment and community during the weekend between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
