“PREPARATION: GET READY FOR WHAT GOD IS ABOUT TO DO!”

Series Theme:

“God often prepares us before He prepares the blessing.”

Preparation is not punishment.
Preparation is not delay.
Preparation is God getting us ready for what He has already determined to do.

WEEK ONE — “PREPARE YOUR HEART!”

Text: 1 Samuel 7:3

“…prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only…”

Theme:

Before God changes your circumstances, He often wants to change you.

Introduction

Israel had drifted away from God. Samuel called them back to the Lord, but notice the order: put away the strange gods, prepare your hearts, and serve God.

There is a blessing connected to preparation, but there is also a responsibility attached to it.

You cannot expect God to pour something new into a heart that has not been prepared to receive it.

Three Points

1. Preparation Requires Examination

“Search me, O God, and know my heart…” — Psalm 139:23

Ask yourself:

What’s in my heart?
What’s standing between me and God?
What must I surrender?

2. Preparation Requires Separation
Israel had to put away their strange gods.

Sometimes preparation means removing:

wrong relationships
wrong attitudes
wrong priorities
wrong habits
wrong influences

3. Preparation Requires Consecration

“…present your bodies a living sacrifice…” — Romans 12:1

God doesn’t just want our hands—He wants our hearts.

Celebration

God is preparing me for something greater, so I’m preparing my heart for Him!
