Did you know the average person showers for 8 minutes and uses roughly 16 gallons of water in that time? We have an abundance of water. Children in other countries will sometimes walk miles, 4+ times a day, to collect dirty water that is then used for drinking, cleaning clothes, bathing, cooking, and for agriculture. This activity had students walk a half mile carrying buckets of water to show them the effort children go to to simply get water.

Thank you to everyone for your donations! From our meal, we raised $580 and served 94 meals!

Malaria is a leading cause of death and is very preventable and treatable. However, access to medicine and treatment is hard. For this activity students had to assemble a penlight while being chased by a "mosquito". The penlight represented the medicine and if their teammates were tagged by the mosquito they were frozen until they could get help.

Morning activity. After watching some videos on schooling and what that looks like for children in poverty, we played a game where students had to get teammates to guess the word on the slip of paper. This was to show how difficult it can be to think when you are hungry.

Last activity of the night. Each student held a light and every 7 seconds one person turned their light off. This was a visual to show that every 7 seconds a child dies a hunger related death around the world. The light in the center sat on a chair and represented us. When we keep our light shining and do our part to help others, we can bring light and hope to the people who need it most. Tomorrow we have a spaghetti drive through meal to benefit our fundraiser for world vision. $40 feeds a child for a month. The meal is a $5 donation. Come grab a delicious meal at the church! (The students will still be fasting and serving others while going without.)

Second activity of the night.

Teams had to work together to use "rafts" to get their teammates across the room. They couldn't fall off their raft or they were out. This was to learn about natural disasters and what families go through when they have to try to move or leave quickly to avoid things like floods.

It's 30 hour famine time again! Follow again as we go through our evening and day tomorrow learning how we can bring awareness and help to the world around us.

Our first activity was the complete meal challenge. Students collected and popped balloons to get resources inside to try to get a complete meal.

Imagine if you had to live in an unsafe environment. Simply going to get firewood is a dangerous task for young children like Mahana and her siblings. Kidnappings can be common, where young boys are kidnapped to become child soldiers and young girls are kidnapped to be married off to much older men or sold into slavery.
