Two years ago, we developed weekly meditations for Lent using the Prayer of St. Francis. While that prayer is timeless, the humility and virtue within that prayer seem especially relevant in the present.

We invite you to join us during the Season of Lent for a consistent practice of prayer and reflection. You are welcome to download the weekly meditations on the Prayer of St. Francis. Just follow the link to resources. The first mediation begins with Ash Wednesday.

Lamenting Sadness

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is sadness, let me sow joy.

Psalm 25:16-18 (Contemporary English Version)
"I am lonely and troubled.
Show that you care
and have pity on me.
My awful worries keep growing.
Rescue me from sadness.
See my troubles and misery
and forgive my sins."

~ It’s important to acknowledge and be honest with God about our feelings and experiences. Talk with God about anything causing you to be sad, worried, troubled, or feeling alone.

~ Do you know someone experiencing sadness? Pray for them this week, asking God to replace their sadness with joy while seeking ways that you can personally bring them comfort and care.

~ What does it mean to you when you consider that God will make you strong, firm, and steadfast?

Holy Week Meditations |

Holy Week is a high point in the Christian Church calendar. Beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, this week commemorates the final days of Jesus’ earthly life as he reaches the height of his Passion.

We've developed some simple elements that can be used throughout Holy Week to assist your contemplation of the person of Jesus and your commitment to follow Him.

Lamenting Darkness

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is darkness, let me sow light.

Ephesians 5:8-9 (New Living Translation)
"For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true."

Grace has been described as unmerited or unearned favor.

Ponder your need for grace and forgiveness. Express your gratitude to God, specifically naming how he has brought light to your dark behaviors, attitudes, and actions. Thank Him for patiently making you more and more like Jesus.

Lamenting Darkness

Secrets have power in darkness.

Take several moments to quiet your spirit, inviting God into an examination of your life.

Is there anything you need to acknowledge or confess?
Is there a relationship that needs reconciliation? I
s there someone you need to forgive?
Bring these things into the light of God’s presence.

Ephesians 5:8-9 (New Living Translation)
"For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true."

An invitation to join us in-person

To center ourselves and prepare for the Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday and progresses through Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and then Resurrection Sunday, we thought it good to gather. To be with one another, share a meal, and reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So please consider joining us!
Saturday, March 23, 6-8:00pm

We’ll be eating (of course!) and spending time working through a focused experience to assist our engagement with the people and events of Holy Week.

Everyone is invited to participate with the meal by providing a contribution. We’ll provide a main course (vegetarian soups), so please bring a side or dessert to share. Let us know that you’ll join us by completing the form below.

"So the Lord wants to show you kindness. He waits on high to
have loving-pity on you. For the Lord is a God of what is right
and fair. And good will come to all those who hope in Him."

Lamenting Doubt

1 Peter 5:6-7 (Contemporary English Version)
