Catholic Scouting America is excited to announce the new Fortin Education For Service Scholarship!

The Fortin Education for Service $3,500 Scholarship was established in 2026 by Herve Derek Fortin. Its name reflects a guiding principle that has shaped Mr. Fortin's life and career. Upon graduating from college, he received a pocket watch from his parents engraved with the words "Education for Service." The gift served as a lifelong reminder that education carries with it a responsibility to serve others and strengthen one's community.

Mr. Fortin exemplified this principle throughout his 42-year career as a Professional Scouter with the Boy Scouts of America, serving local councils across the United States and around the world.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful opportunity with Scouts in the Finger Lakes and Rochester area. 2026 is the 100th anniversary of the Ad Altare Dei award. Earning it has had a profound effect on so many lives. I earned mine in 1968 and gave me important insights into our faith that have lasted a lifetime.

An Ad Altare Dei course is being organized to start soon!

We will be meeting once a month at the Council Office (schedule TBA).

This is for all Catholic youth in Scouting America (including troops, venturing and sea scouts). Ideally, this is for youth ages 13-14, but any youth ages 11-17 in grades 7-12 can work on this Religious Emblem. If youth are interested in attending or you are an adult who would like to help, please contact Colleen Trevisani at [email protected] or at 585-672-5568.
