Rochford Chapel The beloved Rochford Chapel in Rochford, South Dakota Rochford Chapel was completed in 1966 as a church for summer residents of the Rochford area.

A Presbyterian minister, the Rev. Tyra Talley, started the Rochford Chapel project in the summer of 1960. Chapel construction continued at varying speeds for the next six years, supported by the national Board of Presbyterian Missions and many local people. Richard Johnson of the Forest Service gathered volunteers to cut timber; sawmill owner Al Melchert contributed trucks and mill server; Presbyt

erian youth groups from Michigan and Minnesota came to Rochford to work on the Chapel. Al and Tom Juso of Lead were contracted to build the log structure and rough interior walls. The late Sam Biggerstaff, a local builder, finished the interior. Lester Hall, a Rochford summer resident from Dallas, Texas contributed carpeting, new lighting and central heating. The walls of the chapel are decorated with works of local artists. The Chapel celebrated its golden anniversary in 2016.
