Our next spotlight is Michele Lewis! Michele teaches PreK at Holy Cross School in Charlotte!

What grade level/content area do you teach? How many years have you been in education?
I currently teach Pre-K with 3-5 year olds in my class. I have been teaching Pre-K for 10 years but have been in the field of education for nearly 30 years in various roles. I have been a middle school teacher, director/administrator in the childcare sector for many years, and 1st and 4th grade teacher.

Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact that would surprise your students?
No hidden talents but a fun fact about me is that I hate socks and never wear them, even in the winter. My Pre-K kids always tell me my feet are going to get cold.

What accomplishment of your students are you most proud of?
I love having my students for 2 years because the growth that I get to witness from a young 3-year-old to a 4- and 5-year-old is the most rewarding experience. When some of them start in my classroom they are still very dependent on their teachers to do (what seem like) the simplest tasks and by the time they leave me to go to Kindergarten, they are ready to take on the world!! The days can be long in a blended Pre-K class, but I wouldn't change it for a million bucks!

If you could pass along any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
My favorite thing to say to my Pre-K kids is "You can do hard things" and making them say "I can do hard things". And- Always be YOU because God made you that way on purpose! He made you strong and resilient to get through the hard!

Our next spotlight is Karen Pearson! Karen teaches at St. Patrick's Preschool - Victor.

What grade level/content area do you teach? How many years have you been in education?
I teach pre-K four and five year olds and while this is my sixth year at St. Patrick’s Preschool, I have been in education since graduating from Roberts Wesleyan in 2005. I took time off to be a stay-at-home mom and then homeschooled my youngest daughter in pre-K when Covid hit. I also have experience in the special education field.

Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact that would surprise your students?
My students know my favorite animal is the elephant, but they would be surprised to hear how well I can imitate its trumpet sound!

What accomplishment of your students are you most proud of?
Some accomplishments I am most proud of is seeing my students treat their peers with empathy and kindness and their growth in learning what it means to love Jesus.

If you could pass along any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
If I could pass along any wisdom to my students, it would be from Miss Frizzle - “take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!"

Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact that would surprise your students?
I like to coach football and wrestling. I am currently coaching Modified Football and Varsity Wrestling. I was the coach of the year in 2024 -2025 wrestling season, in the Wayne Finger Lakes league in Wayne County.

What accomplishment of your students are you most proud of?
The accomplishments that I am most proud of in my students are watching them grow to the next level in life. The next level in their education, sports or moving into adulthood, knowing that I helped mold them to who they are.

If you could pass along any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
If I could pass anything to my students it would be not to worry about the little things in life. If you want something you need to work for it. Nothing is given to you.

Do you have a hidden talent or fun fact that would surprise your students?
A fun fact that would surprise my students would be that I love animals and have held parrots in Hawaii and a baby lamb in Ireland.

What accomplishment of your students are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my students when they show their kindness towards others.

If you could pass along any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
One piece of wisdom I would pass along to my students would be to not be afraid to try new things. They can always learn something new!
