Dear Members and Friends of Calvary St. Andrew’s,

On March 12, the Calvary St. Andrew’s congregation voted to concur with the recommendation of the administrative commission to dissolve the congregation. The final Sunday service will be Easter Sunday, April 16. A service of thanksgiving will be held Saturday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome.

If you are a current CSA member, your official membership will be held by the presbytery until you notify us otherwise. Please be in touch with me if you have questions.

At the congregational meeting, there was discussion about the future of the building. I shared several alternatives, including sale to a new owner or the retention of the building by the presbytery for mission purposes. Members of the administrative commission and others are working on a proposal to present to the presbytery at a later date. Again, if you have questions, please be in touch with me.

The food program will continue meeting the needs of neighbors. We are working on a transition in leadership to be able to better recruit volunteers and raise funds. Regardless of who owns the building, the food program will press on!

Members of the administrative commission are mindful about the bittersweet nature of this decision. Though it feels to us like the right one, it was not made quickly or easily. We remain grateful for the decades of faithful service that the congregation shared with the South Wedge neighborhood. That is why we are working so diligently to discern a creative use for the building as we move ahead.

It seems appropriate that the final worship service will be held on Easter Sunday, a sign of resurrection. Though the formal ministry of CSA will end, its fruitfulness will not. Lives were impacted as the gospel of justice and hope was shared with so many for so long. For that we are very grateful.

Faithfully,

John Wilkinson
Moderator, Administrative Commission
