Dear Friends,
We are heartbroken and horrified by yesterday’s deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, in which several worshippers were murdered in what authorities are investigating as a hate crime. We stand in prayer and solidarity with the Muslim community, with the families of the victims, and with all those traumatized by this violence.
As Jews, we know painfully well the fear and vulnerability that arise when houses of worship are targeted by hatred and extremism. When Jewish institutions are attacked, we deeply appreciate the solidarity and moral support of our neighbors of all faiths. Today, we extend that same solidarity to our Muslim brothers and sisters.
No one should ever fear for their safety while gathering in prayer, study, or community. Hatred directed against one faith community threatens us all. May we respond not with fear or division, but with courage, compassion, and renewed commitment to standing together against hatred in every form.
