Wednesday Noonday Prayer at Ascension!
What a blessing to gather with friends today for our in-person Wednesday Noonday Prayer! It is always good to come together in prayer, fellowship, and the presence of God. We also gather every Tuesday on Zoom for Noonday Prayer, providing another opportunity to stay connected and pray together wherever we may be. Grateful for everyone who joins us in this ministry of prayer and fellowship.

Yesterday, It was a beautiful and meaningful encounter with, Raymond’s excitement about beginning first grade, and the dreams and joy he carries, are wonderful reminders of the hope we see in our children. May God bless Raymond as he begins this new chapter in September, and may he continue to grow in wisdom, confidence, curiosity, and joy. Blessings and prayers to Timothy’s family and to Debbe Copenhagen for surrounding this little saint with love and encouragement. My sincere thanks to the family for inviting me and for the wonderful fellowship we shared yesterday afternoon.

Ascension is blessed with a wonderful number of school-going children and youth. As we interact with them, we see a beautiful diversity of cultures, experiences, and dreams all united under the love of Christ.Today, I was especially moved by the generosity of a donor who gave a dozen Walmart gift Cards to Ascension Sunday school Children, to support these little saints as they prepare for the school year. THANK YOU DONOR! πŸ™Such simple acts of love remind us that when we invest in our children, we invest in the future of our beloved community.
Next Sunday, ( 8/23/2026) following 9 am worship, we are planning a special coffee hour in the Great Hall with our children and youth. We invite you to join us to listen to their voices, celebrate their gifts, encourage their dreams, and assure them that their church family walks alongside them. Education is a powerful tool for envisioning and building the Beloved Community. May every child know that they are seen, valued, loved, and supported. If you are able, please join us for worship as we pray for and celebrate all our children and youth.

Yesterday, we were blessed with a meaningful Annual Picnic Sunday at the Seneca Park Zoo campus at Longhouse Park, with about 50 people gathering for worship, food, fellowship, games, and joyful time with family and friends. We began around Christ’s table with a beautiful celebration of the Holy Eucharist and reflected on Psalm 133: β€œHow good and joyful it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity!” Our meditation reminded us that unity is not uniformity; it is God’s sacred space where all are welcomed with our diverse perspectives, cultures, experiences, and stories. When we gather, we gather for GOOD, to build one another up in love. As Jesus reminds us in the Gospel, it is not what enters a person that defiles, but what comes from the heart, therefore, our unity must produce words and actions of love, kindness, dignity, and peace. We enjoyed wonderful food and fellowship, while our young people had a great time playing games and sharing friendship. Sincere appreciation to Jerry W, Pat, Nancy T., Nancy W., Dyson, Steve, Judith, and Kathy K. for their wonderful planning, and thanks to everyone who helped with our worship and fellowship. A special word of gratitude to all the families and especially our young men and women who helped clean the picnic area and care for our shared space. May the joy we experienced continue beyond our picnic, as we live as God’s beloved community, many people, many experiences, many perspectives, yet one family in Christ. β€œHow good and joyful it is when we live together in unity!” Thanks be to God! - Fr. Abi John.

Kudos to the Ascension Church Family!

Kudos to the Church of the Ascension family for our continuing commitment to the spirit of the 79th General Convention of The Episcopal Church, which commended the Dioceses of New York and Rochester for β€œtaking the lead in addressing the human rights violation of discrimination associated with caste and descent.”
Our Ascension community has sought to move beyond borders through genuine global mission partnership with the Dalit community in Chennai, India. By the grace of God, and with the blessings of our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Kara Wagner Sherer, we were able to raise $3,500 for the Bed Project, supporting Dalit hostel children with proper beds and rest so that they may have greater dignity, well-being, and access to education.
On July 30, 2026, our Vestry presented a ceremonial check to the Bishop in Madras and his wife, the Rev. Indira Paul, as a visible sign of our solidarity with Dalit children and our commitment to human dignity and justice.Small attempts can make big changes!
We continue to pray for all who are in need and recommit ourselves to building a world where every human being is treated with dignity and respect.
β€œEducate! Unite! Transform!” , these words keep us moving forward as we imagine and build the Beloved Community. Thanks be to God for everyone who made this ministry possible. Amen.
