Thought of the Day

"You will be either a world-class Christian or a worldly Christian. Worldly Christians look to God primarily for personal fulfillment.... They love to attend concerts and enrichment seminars, but you would never find them at a missions conference.... In contrast, world-class Christians know they were saved to serve and made for a mission. They are eager to receive a personal assignment." ~ Rick Warren

"You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17

Lord, thank You for being ever-present in my life. And thank You for the hard times. I might not have said that then, but I see now how faithful You were (and are) to meet my needs. Help me walk so closely with You that I never return to my independent self. I love You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thought of the Day

"Oh Lord, Thou hast told us how to pray. Help us to shut the door, shutting out the world, and the enemy and any fear or doubt which spoils prayer. May there be no distance between our souls and Thee." - John Wanamaker, American Merchant and U.S. Postmaster General from 1889-93

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Matthew 6:9-13

Father, help me to be a generous giver--with my time and resources. Show me how to build the community I long for and how to be part of the solution instead of complaining and comparing. Forgive me where I have been lazy or apathetic instead of bold and engaged; I want to grow in my faith this year. Help me to do that, and to be a blessing in my church community. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“Radical obedience to Christ is not easy... It's not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough for us.” ― David Platt,

"There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience." Hebrews 4:9-11

Dear Father God,
Sometimes I get frustrated and angry when I believe someone has wronged me, not lived up to their promises or let me down.
Help me to remember that people are not perfect. I pray that I will be someone who is always dependable, ethical, and honest.
I pray that You will help me to always do what is right, even when wronged. When I’m tempted to react in the flesh, please move in me through Your Holy Spirit so that I will remember to stop, take a deep breath, and pray. So that I may respond in a Christ-like manner.
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Thought of the Day

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

"Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains." James 5:7

Dear God, I need Your peace today. I know that in order to be at rest I have to stop juggling fear with faith. So I ask for Your wisdom. Help me to be brave. I come now and hand over these concerns to You. Fill me with Your love, joy and peace instead, Lord.In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thought of the Day

"Ours is battling for the peace, and fighting for rest. We disturb the world to make it quiet, and turn it upside down to set it right. We pull down strongholds that they may not pull down the Zion of God. We dash down the mighty that the humble and the meek may be established. We have no sympathy with any other war, but count it an evil of the direst sort, let it be disguised as it may. Now with that caution, whatever I shall seem to say will not sound as though I loved or excused ordinary warfare—for nothing can be more abhorrent to the Christian man than wholesale slaughter. Nothing can be more desired by us than the promised era when men shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks." (A Good Soldier of Jesus Christ)

"Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence." Psalm 11:5

Father, thank You for providing an escape from the tyranny of self. You are the only One powerful enough to conquer my flesh, and I willingly submit to Your ways today. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit instead of my selfishness. Let my life truly exude the aroma of Christ, even when pushed, pressured, and threatened with loss of autonomy or comfort. I know that Your ways are higher than mine, so I thank You that You made me and that You know and want what’s best for Your children. I yield myself to You in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Thought of the Day

No man hath a right to claim God as his Father, unless he feeleth in his soul, and believeth, solemnly, through the faith of God’s election, that he has been adopted into the one family of which is in heaven and earth, and that he has been regenerated or born again. ~ Charles Spurgeon

Romans 8:15

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
